/-[Introduction]------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------/

Welcome to TraxWeekly #83.

We're off to a very small start here in the new year, featuring two
articles covering tracking techniques for Impulse Tracker. Pinion's IT
tips continue for the third straight week, and Pulse corrects a few
mistakes and elaborates on a previous column.

We are again searching for dedicated people who have the time to write
for this newsletter. We have recently lost the services of Zinc, who has
spent many hours putting many creative ideas and articles into this
publication. Thanks for being with us, Zinc!

Specifically, some coverage of music competitions worldwide would be
appeciated greatly. Email me at any time.

Until next week,
Gene Wie (Psibelius)

--[1. Impulse Tracker Tip of the Week]-------------[by pinion (Ryan Hunt)]--

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip #3: Random melodies using volume swing
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

<step one> Pick any melodic sample you like.

<step two> In the pattern editor do some type of scale, placing a note in
each row of the channel. It may be a good idea to give the sample some type
of NNA like 'note fade' (see tip2) so that the clipping doesn't make this
technique sound bad. Also, try to give your run a decent amount of varia-
tion so that it's not too uniform. You'll have an entire channel to fill
sp I'm sure you can think of something! If you can't well... go get a good
scale out of a book or something. I don't know! Think Bach...

<step three> Set the instruments (you are in instrument mode aren't you!)
volume swing to 100%.

<step four> Sit back and let the laws of chaos do the composing. Well, this
is a bit of an exaggeration...I wouldn't try to compose an entire song like
this. This trick is more of a novelty than anything, but if done with
discretion it has potentioal to be pretty cool.

If you need further information on this trick or have an idea for a Tip of
the Week email pinion@netcom.com

--[2. More Impulse Tracker Tips]-----------------------------------[Pulse]--

Hey! Thanks a heap for the columns in TW - just a little thing - feel free
to EMail me the hints first so that I can check for any mistakes...

Mostly, you have been very accurate, but this little point here is quite
significant:

00 C-4 03 .. S74 | <-- This note will ring out until you do a ^^^
01 A#4 03 .. S73 | <-- This note will sound out util the note in
02 ... .. .. ... | row 03 is played where as it will be abruptly
03 C-5 03 .. ... | and uncerimoniously clipped.
04 ... .. .. ... |

The C-4 03 due to the S74 will NOT cut out at all... until you do a S70
(past note cut)..

The ^^^ will only affect the latest note playing. You can always check for
the number of virtual channels being used by checking the info-pages Tot
column

(maybe want to mention this in next week's IT tip of the week?)

Anyway....

I think an AWESOME tip would be an explanation of how to use templates - I
never used them myself until recently, but I find them one of the most
useful tools. (need any explanation of how to use templates?)

The best use for templates is for doubling samples or splitting pannings
etc.

Examples of things to template:

-------------------------------------------
C-4 01 .. X30 | C-5 01 .. XC0 <--- gives a nice stereo
sorta effect on
many samples.
-------------------------------------------
C-4 01 .. ... | C-4 02 .. ... <--- sample doubling, which
can be very effective
-------------------------------------------
C-4 01 .. ... | G-4 01 .. ... | C-5 01 .. ... <-- Open '5th' to provide
background effect

The possibilities for templates are almost endless. The MOST useful
templates are the single-row templates, as they have extra player code
attached and have special conditions, etc.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ANALOGUE
--------------------------------

Analogue is a tracking "society" consisting of members from different
parts of the world. The purpose of Analogue is dissimilar to that of other
groups within the tracking scene. We exist for no other reason than to
help each other (and new members) develop their individul style of tracked
music. We are dependent on each other for critique and suggestion.

STRUCTURE
---------

Currently, Analogue is based on a mutual system of agreement.
When an issue comes up, the members of the group collectively decide upon
the group's actions. With the exception of annual packs, Analogue members
release seperately. This file can also be found in each release by an
Analogue member. In the case of a special release, each member submits what
he/she wants in the packaged release. The pack is compiled by Mind Bender.

Analogue is now affiliated with Twilight, which produces ANSI, VGA, and
RIP on a monthly basis. Together, we hope to acheive a new level of music
and art quality.

FINAL NOTES
-----------

We hope that you like our music. Each and every member has a
different style, and a different method of writing. If you don't like the

--[WAVs Needed!]------------------------------------------------------------

I am in need of some original voice samples for a few tunes I will be
putting on a CD. This means that I need good quality, 16 bit samples.
.WAV is preferred. The song I need this most for is an ambient tune,
but I have a couple of other songs (a trance and a triphop tune) that
need 'em. If you think you could make up some decent voice samples,
please do.

If I use the sample, I will give you credit in the text. If it is an
excellent sample that becomes rather prominent in the song, I will at
least send you a free CD when it comes out.

Here are a few suggestions to give you ideas of what I need:

"And then, he was gone."
"Step to the left; to the right; to the left."
"There's something out there waiting for us."
"I don't think you understand."

Those are only suggestions, feel free to make anything you want. One
little thing: Please enunciate.

Thanks! You can send those WAVs to me (you can MP3 it if you really
have to) at rays@direct.ca or dcc them to me over IRC.
