                              The Trek Update

Trekkers and Trekkies everywhere should begin holding their breath until  
January of 1993 when Paramount will release their new television series  
"Star Trek : Deep Space Nine." The Project has been in development for  
Paramount Since mid to late 1991 and is about to become a reality. The  
third Star Trek television series will hit the air waves in 11 months. Very  
little is known about the planned series and Paramount has only released a  
few minute details. 
        So Far we know that the action will take place aboard a starbase 
in deep Federation space. The details are very sketchy but apparently the 
starbase will be located at the base of a wormhole where it can study the 
actions and reactions of this phenomenon. 
        Paramount and creators are extremely adamant about one thing,DS9 
will not be another "sequel" to the original series; it will be a SPINOFF 
of the Next Generation series which indeed indicates that various character 
crossovers will occur between the two series (sort of like "Green Acres", 
and "Petticoat Junction". I know the comparison is unfair, but it's the 
closest I could come). There is no word of characters or actors yet.
