Welcome to the Info-Atari16 Digest. The configuration for the automatic
cross-posting to/from Usenet is getting closer, but still getting thrashed
out. Please send notifications about broken digests or bogus messages
to Info-Atari16-Request@NAUCSE.CSE.NAU.EDU.

Please send requests for un/subscription and other administrivia to
Info-Atari16-Request, *NOT* Info-Atari16. Requests that go to the list
instead of the moderators are likely to be lost or ignored.

If you want to unsubscribe, and you're receiving the digest indirectly
from someplace (usually a BITNET host) that redistributes it, please
contact the redistributor, not us.

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

Does anybody out there remember this arcade game, done with vector
graphics like Asteroids?

ANALOG magazine made a version called Bacterion for the 8bits. Very
simple game, but addictive.

Does a version for the ST exist? It would be nice to play it on my
machine so I wouldn't have to tie up my roommate's 130XE. If anybody has
seen or heard of anything like it, I would definitely appreciate some
info on where to get it.

Thanks.

Subject: Focusing SM124 (how to?)
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

I've tried to focus my SM124 because it's very fuzzy in the corners,
moderately fuzzy at the sides and top, and not exactly sharp in the center.

I've located the "Focus" adjustment on the circuitboard, and found it to have
little or no effect throughout it's 1.5 or 2 turn range. I twisted most
(all I found... I hope there's another) of the other adjustments with
no better results. I'm curious... do I have to grab the yoke on the picture
tube to adjust this? If so... How should I construct a "Grounding probe"
to discharge the tube before I fiddle?

Also... Once I've discharged the tube, what kind of motion of which yoke
(I seem to recall two) would help? Or is there some method of "Coarse"
focus that I've not located? Please help. My eyes are sore.

jc (cummins@d.cs.okstate.edu)

Actually the center of the screen is "good enough"....

Hmm.... a 1+ meg demo at atari.archive, named pym has just appeared??
Has anyone tested this one out? Looks like I won't simply be able to dl'
it to an IBM disk then tranfer to the ST, I guess I'll have to let it dl
via modem straight to the HD to check it out, but would like to know if
anyone else has tried it yet that can give some explanation of it?

Well, from checking the file with ARC, the file is a double packed files.
The .arc is 4 *.lzh files:
pym_a1.lzh
pym_a2.lzh
pym_b1.lzh
pym_b2.lzh
each of them is one .msa files, so judge from the arrangement, it would looks
like 2 disks set with each side archived with Magic.
Anyway, you don't have to use modem to download it, get it FTP to your IBM and
unarced it, then copy the 4 .lzh files to ST disks would do.
(sorry for this long, the rn won't take replys shorter than the included origin
file ).

I think there are plenty of Spectre users here...

> I have a 520ST upgraded to 2.5 Meg and am considering adding the Spectre.

You will soon run out of memory...

> What's the latest software version?

3.0, and 3.1 will be out sooner or later, it is about to reach the
beta-level soon.

> Is a hard drive required?

Not required, but highly recommended. Have you ever used a Mac with
floppydrives, particularly with one floppydrive? Such a torture I
wouldn't recommend to anyone...

> Is sound supported?

It is supported, but proper function depends a lot of what version of
Mac system software you are using. 6.0.5 seems to be the best for
Spectre.

> Any Mac S/W compatibility problems? Do games work?

Copy-protected software and other software that likes to hammer the
hardware directly does not work. But over 90% of all Mac-software
available works fine.

> Midi support??

No direct one. With MegaTalk and Mac MIDI-interface it works. Some
problems with timing may occure, but nothing crash-causing...

> Any way to run color?

No. 128k Apple ROMs do not support color. You need 256k ROMs for color
Mac. Hopefully in the future when those clone-ROMs are widely
available someone constructs a Mac II emulator...

Subject: TOS 1.4 doesn't register double mouse click
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

Now that I've _finally_ upgraded to TOS 1.4 I discover that anything
resembling a double mouse click in my sequencer, Steinberg Pro-24, gets
interpreted as two separate single clicks. This renders large portions
of the program unusable. At current prices it would be cheaper to buy
another computer to run Pro-24 on rather than buy a new sequencer, like
C-Lab or Cubase, but it'd be simpler if there was some workaround or fix.
Can anyone help?

different fonts per page. Allow graphics mixing with text, both IMG and

Any suggestions welcome. I will summarize to the net.
