Hmm... I use uud version 3.3, which I got from atari.archive ages ago
(back when it was still terminator) - have had absolutely no trouble
with it at all. I have had problems with .lzh files - sometimes I
have to juggle around to find a version of lharc that will unpack a
particular file.

I don't know if uud has much in the way of error checking - it lets me
know if it doesn't find the next file, but that's about it. Could it
be that your comm link to wherever you read Usenet is flaky?

>Hmm... I use uud version 3.3, which I got from atari.archive ages ago

I've been using a version that says......

Almost foolproof uudecode v3.4 (unix) 25-Nov-88

Usage: uud [-n] [-d] [-s dir] [-t dir] input-file

Option: -n -> No line sequence check
Option: -d -> Debug/verbose mode
Option: -s + Source directory for all input files
(MUST be terminated by directory separator)
Option: -t + Target directory for all output files
(MUST be terminated by directory separator)
If input-file is - then stdin is used as input-file

For a long...... time now. I have the source code to both it and uue
and they both compiled very nicely under the current (here anyway)
version of Ultrix where I use them. No problems what-so-ever.

Not unless you provide an indication of what sort of problems
you're having.

I've found uud quite reliable except for one instance, and that
involved files from BART (atari.archive.umich.edu) that had bizarre
filenames.

My GEM-based encoding/decoding program, UUCODER, has some filename-munging
routines to manage BART's filenames.

There are UUCICO's available on Amigas and Macs, with source in 'C'.
Has anyone tried porting these, or is there something weird about

What about porting on from MS-DOS land?

most of the "other" uucico packages are based on the uupc project started
by some folks at van-bc which in turn was based on lamb's dcp code. A
few years ago, I got the ST port of uupc working but it had a hard
time keeping up with 1200 baud and failed at 2400 baud. The mercury uucico
run just fine at 9600 baud via a trailblazer t2500 modem.

If I was going to take on the job of porting a uucp package, I'd port andrew
derbyshire's(?) rework of uupc for dos and os/2. he has fixed protocol
bugs, code bugs, improved performance and added a good mail package.
Currently it punts on news but I'm sure it hermes could fix that.

andrew's uupc requires an ansi compliant compiler to handle the
function prototyping and other ansi-ish quirks. Sounds like a job for
GCC!! :-) Other trouble points include how unix file names are translated
into dos/tos file names and how files are spooled.

IMHO, other uucico packages would be more difficult to port and provide
a less reliable implementation of UUCP. The one exception would be VMS
UUCP which is a very good implementation of UUCP that is only hard to
port because it is hardwired to VMS.

good luck!

Speaking of Ethernet, I see on the .forsale groups that Mac SCSI <->
Ethernet interfaces are fairly cheap ($400.00 U.S. or so). Does
anybody anywhere support this (these ???) board for the ST? It would
be by far the best solution for me.

old revision B boardd does. Also, is there a program which will identify OS

In addition, could someone please tell me the differences between these
revisions, especially since the D seems quite different from the B & C models.

Please advise me through E-mail, & if there isn't already a document some-
