For anyone else looking at the ST GNU suite, ++jrb has kindly agreed to mail a
cart tape with his GNU suite to A.A. There are rather too many mismatches at
the moment for me to sort out the archive properly. ++jrb is working on an
update at the moment, so it might be worth hanging fire a wee while.

Hi people!
I really hav had NO problems running OXYD. You can't run it from the
AUTO-Folder. The game is monochrome only. You can steer the ball
with the mouse (no joystick!).
The first level is very easy (look at the next 99 levels ;-))
A hint for the first level: run the ball fast enough over the swamp,
touch one stone, go back again (be careful about the rotor; it doesn't
follow you if you have enough distance to it). And finaly get all the
pairs of stones....
I enjoy OXYD very much (especially the two player option!!!).
All levels are really playable - some even with problems....
Hope you will have fun too....
Bye, Wolfgang.
(OXYD is one of the very best monochrome game-programs for the ST)

Until I got my TT, I always used UNITERM and found its implementation of
KERMIT to be the best of any program I had ever used. But, since UNITERM does
not take advantage of my 19" TTM195 monitor, I now use STalker for
telecommunications. STalker does not include KERMIT so I use a desk
accessory called GEM KERMIT. While GEM KERMIT has a few bugs, such as
its FINISH command, it works quite well. GEM KERMIT is PD, anyone want
me to post it on the net?

I'm a little confused by your last statement. What makes Uniterm so
good? I have it, but I have had several problems getting it to do the
following things:
1. ANSI (with graphic characters) emulation.
2. Dialing properly. It seems that when I tell it to dial, it will dial
once, and then WAIT until I press a key to dial again. This seems
strange, since redialingis used mainly so that you don't have to hover
over the keyboard.
Interlink does do ANSI emulation, and the dialer is simple. Everyone
says UniTerm is good, but *WHY*? (Surely not because it does Kermit?
There is an external Kermit utility in the public domain, which could be
used just as easily.)
Also, what is the latest version? I've been using 2.0e, which is the
newest I've seen or heard about.

You need to reset the dialer timeout delay. It's on the Dialer menu. That
should speed things up for you.
Uniterm is good mainly because it does almost every kind of terminal
emulation you can think of. It also has (imho) a very good kermit
implementation too. Maybe you don't have the docs that come along with
it? btw 2.0e is the latest version

One can run ANY program from Flash, including mouse driven ones. Use
GEM command instead of EXEC. I'm using this feature with those GEM RZ & SZ for
quite a time, never had any problems, just say GEM RZ.PRG, and you have the
mouse on screen.

Well, I think UniTerm is better than Interlink in the same manner that
I think unix is better than TOS...one is a lot more powerful, but a
little unwieldy to use. If you do a lot of communication with mainframes,
you will find the features/configurability (is this a word? :))
indispensable. However, if you just want to jump onto your local BBS
once in a while to download a file or play nethack, it might not be
worth dealing with its little quirks.
BTW, last I heard UniTerm v2.0e edit 14 was the newest version, but
I think Howard Chu (was it Howard?) has a version which he updated
himself to sort out some of the well-known eccentricities of the
program.
Also, UniTerm has the best version of Kermit I have seen on any
terminal emulation package for the ST.
Cheers,
Chris

Besides, it's kinda nice setting up function keys to run external
programs - I'd say have F1 run XYZSHELL, and thus have Zmodem right there.
And the reason it doesn't have ANSI is because the author quit awhile ago.
But he left a very powerful program nonetheless...

??? CodeHead usually uses a terrible programming style (such as stealing
vectors in accessories, using Line-A, not using wind_update(), installing
housemade BIOS-ops (!!!) in accessories (!!! II), allowing zero-vdi-handles
and so on).
CodeKeys uses Line-A for its outputs. That certainly won't work on various
graphic-boards, and it had serious problems with OverScan, allthough this board
supports Line-A.

I encountered the same problem with the same hard drive. I was
never able to overcome it and eventually bought a new drive.
The Triangle has other problems, basically its not a genuine SCSI
device. It will therefore not daisy chain with other drives (nor
presumably with an Atari Laser Printer, though we have not tried
this latter configuration). It also has problems with some
non-Triangle hard disc utilities software and we suspect
occasional bad interactions with some non-related software. We
still use the Triangle, apart from these problems of integration,
its a very nice drive unit. Small, reliable and VERY fast. Much
faster than anything else that we have. Forget quoted access
times, we have 11ms drives that work fine, the Triangle outruns
them all.
Power Computing (who took over Triangle) were extremely unhelpful,
objectionably so, I now never deal with them.
We have hard drives from 3rd Coast, Atari, Supra and Ladbrokes.
All work fine with Spectre and daisy chain with eachother.
