The Macintosh will do 4. Each of those 8-bit, 44KHz sampled.

The Mac only has 22KHz, 8-bit channels. I'm sure you can
buy better systems, but 22 is the limit.

My local Atari dealer said he knows of no software with
output to a color printer such as a citizen GSX140 which
has a color ribbon.

Is this true, or does anyone know something he doesn't?

thanks for any help,

I agree, you should use INP?(#nchannel). But there are cases when this might
not work. In example, suppose you are trying to read from the MIDI IN port a
stream of bytes. At a certain point the buffer becomes full and the transmit-
ter stops sending data. I don't know why, but this usually causes an "idle"
state to the conputer, and sometimes you have to reset it and start again.
The main point is that you usually want to test the presence of data, but you
really do not know when a device stop sending them, and so all could get stuck
in the middle of it.

I recently bought one. If you can find an IBM Proprinter driver, that's
fine. Also, any Canon BubbleJet driver - need not be BJ10-e. At worst, you
can use any EpsonFX driver too. It's a great little printer.

I have heard that Cold Hard Cache is supposed to be one of the better
Cache programs. Isn't it true that it is the basis for Diamond Cache?
Anyays, the docs in the version (3.5) that I have say it may not work
with partitions larger than 16M -- it says that it is untested. It
looks like maybe the author put that note in there for an earlier version
and then left it in the docs for 'history' purposes, but I am not sure.
Is anybody using CHC on >16M partitions. Can somebody suggest another
cache program?

Subject: DOUBLE
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

Please forget about the 4 bigscreen emulatores posted yesterday
There is nothing wrong with them, but since they are so equal I
decided to build everything into one small and neat program !!!

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM ONLY WORK WITH STE or NEWER !!!!!

Double Screen-Heigh emualtors for STE, MEGA STE (and TT ??)
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
To install DOUBLE.PRG just put it in your auto-folder as early as possible
(and be sure it's before Quick-ST etc). When the computer boots DOUBLE.PRG
will NOT install itself unless you are holding down one of the SHIFT keys.
If installed in mono it will emulate a 640 x 800 screen (double height) and
if installed in color (desktop.inf must be medium res) a 640 x 400 screen.
Text based program (TOS etc) will still use only the upper half of the
screen (the normal area) as this worked best with the programs I tested.
Most GEM based programs will use the whole screen (I made it for use with
Calamus DTP and Timeworks DTP, but many many more programs can use it...)

RIGHT-SHIFT while booting --> Up/Down scrolling emulator
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
When you move the mouse close to the top or bottom of the visible screen
area the screen will scroll down or up to display more of the screen.
Think of the monitor screen as a window showing a part of the whole area.

LEFT-SHIFT while booting --> Interlaced screen display
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
This will double the number of lines WITHOUT having to scroll the screen
by condensing the screen display. This mode will flicker some (users of
color monitors or TV should use 60 Hz) but you might get a better result
by adjusting brightness and contrast (yes, it looks like an Amiga :-)

I've noticed this too on large files. I'd be VERY interested in a fix.
Also, to make Elvis work under MiNT, I had to ensure files existed before
I editted them (via a script) also, the ":n" didn't work. I used MiNT's
excellent debugging trace option (AltF1 ?), and discovered that it is Elvis'
fault - it does illegal things when openning files.

Hello all. I need some help with my upgrade to a 720K drive. I currently
have a 520 STfm which I have upgraded to 1 Meg, but it still has the old 360K
(Single Sided) drive, which is quite flakey. I have been told that I can use
just about any 3.5" drive in place of the old one merely by swapping the
cables. Is this true? I have already tried this and it does not work for
me. Am I missing something? I would greatly appreciate any help in this area
since I have not seen anything recently pertaining to a floppy upgrade in
comp.sys.atari.st. Please send email to UMHAGMA1@CCU.UMANITOBA.CA.

Thanks much.

UW emulates an adm31 terminal. Terminal features such as variable-size, etc.
are probably the main considerations. (vt-100 is fixed to 80x24 ??)

If you people really want to argue and lose about a great machine,
lets argue about the relative cost/performance merits of Atari TT's
and the NeXT Station currently reviewed in BYTE Mag.

Looks Like NeXT has got the phrase "Power without the price." Down to a
surface mount science.

I own an Atari, Christ I right a lot of software for the machine, PD
and personally I think the machine is something from 1985.

Atari is caught in the same old stone age architecture as InTEL's 486
chip.

Even if you where to argue that the current architecture targets a
specific HOME market, it STILL costs too much!

Atari missed the boat, they should have made an entirely NEW modular
machine. Soon as I get the money, my MEGA STE is going to sit and
either run MAC software or my BBS software.

I am going to buy a real machine, and its going to be a 040 UNIX
platform.

Depending on which rumor mill you subscribe to, it's either been cancelled,
or renamed the "Jaguar", a 32-bit 68030 system ("Atari introduces the world's
first 32-bit game system!") that's backwards compatable (so the currently-
developed Panther software will run) but offers more features.

Notice that both rumors are not mutually exclusive...

Hello,
I'll be getting a TT in a few weeks (:-), and I still have time to
think about the monitor. A friend showed me his Seiko 1445 for the Mac, and
that is one *top-notch* display (albeit 640x480). I've been looking at
specs for the Seiko 1450 (the *BM version), and it's 1024x768 non-i'lace.
About the same price, too. I am seriously considering 24 bit cards, and
my basic frame of reference is graphics work (render, model, etc...).
Please deluge me with opinions on monitors. Info on 24-bit cards that are
shipping in the North American (pref. US) market *right now* would be
helpful. General TT messages are ok to send to me.

To all who missed out, this started when a snivelling little shithead
fuck named Thomas Hill posted a rambling Amiga boast with the intent
of starting a flame war. The fact that he posted a message about it
on an Amiga newsgroup shortly thereafter inviting people to "join in
the fun" proves this.

This Erik person apparently decided to "join in". There are others.

Attempts to justify the original post are laughable. Hill claimed
first that 10 people (and one day later, interestingly enough, 20
people) responded to his post seeking asylum in Amigaland. Yes,
that's right, he claims that there are 20 people who have usenet
access, and considered buying Amigas, but to whom it never occurred
to go to one of the dozen Amiga newsgroups and ask questions.

Frankly, it was fun flaming you weenies for a while. But now you've
become rather tiresome. From now on this discussion will take place
in YOUR newsgroup, not ours.

Which is too bad, because most Amiga users I've met have been good
folks. Well, you started it. You can have it back.
