Is there something unusual about the hard drive? The usual situation is that
one simply runs AHDI and any number of ACSI-SCSI drives are recognized. I've
run 2 hard drives off a BMS-200 that way (along with a cartridge tape). It
is just imaginable that you're installing 2 conflicting hard disk drivers.
Have you called BMS with this problem? They tend to be very helpful.

Hi again,
FLAME-PROOF PAJAMAS ON!
Before anybody gets ticked off and is ready to flame me
about my idea of creating a favorite-dealers list,
I just want to say that the reason I want to compile
such a list is to help people, like myself, get the
best possible price for a product. That's all, no
gimicks, no strings, just a list to help users without
local dealers such as myself get ST soft/hardware.
Thanks for your patience.

Hello again Netland,
I would like to compile a list of Mail-Order houses and dealers
that support the ST with software and/or hardware.
Please email me your favorite suppliers name, phone #, and
what they sell (i.e. software/hardware). Dealers and Mail-Order
places reading this should mail me also. I don't want to list
products, just company names so that we can all reference some
sort of list. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR INFORMATION IS ACCURATE!!!
I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO VERIFY WHAT YOU MAIL ME. All I am going
to do is compile the list. In about 2 weeks when I think I've
got enough companies listed, I will post it to this group.
This means you! Get your favorite dealers name and number out
and mail it to me.
Thanks for your time and I hope this will be useful for others
too!!!

Subject: Mac fonts to gem...
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu
Mac fonts are in a totally different format from gem fonts. On the macintosh,
they are installed in the system file using a program called 'Font D/A Mover'.
(Font D/A Mover files have a little suitcase icon). All macintosh programs
can use these font 'resources' in the system file, and the fonts are loaded
into memory automatically when requested. All macintosh files consist of two
parts, the 'data fork' and the 'resource fork'. The data fork contains all of
the data associated with the file, and the resource fork all of its resources.
In the case of a program, all of the programs code is in the resource fork, and
its initialised data in the data fork. The resource fork also contains the
dialog box templates, window definitions etc. In the case of a document, it is
most likely that the resource fork will be empty, and the data (e.g. text) will
be in the data fork. Mac fonts can be converted to gem format using the program
'mac2gem' which is supplied with 'Fontkit Plus' from the ST club. (20 quid and
well worth it...) Mac fonts are available from quite a few archive servers and
also from PD disc suppliers. Using the above program is simplicity itself,
however if you wish screen and printer fonts, then you will have to edit them
yourself from the screen versions (on the mac, there is no difference between
screen
and printer fonts, unless a laser printer is being used which will contain
higher res versions of the screen fonts) - this is the main purpose of
Fontkit.
N.B. The ST Clubs address is:
49 Stoney Street
Nottingham
U.K.
(20 quid is 20 pounds sterling - I didn't notice that you from the US.)

Autodesk is, as far as I know, the biggest seller of CAD products
in the computer industry. At least they have the largest number
of unit sales. They dominate the MS-DOS world. Their products
include AutoCAD, and now the Generic CAD line as well. Of course,
if you *really* want to be on the cutting edge and the "top stuff"
in the industry, it's not really AutoCAD at all. The top stuff
is all running on Silicon Graphics Iris Workstations. That's what
the car manufacturers use (companies like GM, Volvo, I think Mercedes-Benz,
Honda too), Braun, and of course the major part of the 3D animation
production as well. But that's digressing. . . .

Ok. So now we know that STart may be gone from the North America
scene, and what's left is pretty much just a couple of "fanzine"
things. We'll hope that this improves. . . .
Can someone in Great Britain please clarify what's going on
across the great puddle? I guess the first question I have is
what is exactly the situation with "ST World"? Are they really
trying for a come-back? I thought the whole thing was sold to
"ST User"? If so, will they be accepting submissions for publication?
Is there a mailing address?
I always thought of "ST Format" as a games magazine, but I
bought the May '91 issue and it has coverage of desktop publishing
and the monthly disk has a bunch of programming utilities (admittedly
nothing new). That looks promising.
What's "ST User" been like lately? I haven't even seen it
around for about a half a year now, so I'm wary about sending anything
to them.

Subject: TT memory question
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu
Basically, how is the RAM in the TT configured?
From reading reports in STart (R.I.P.:~) and Atari Explorer, I get the
impression that both ST- and TT-RAM are banks of DIPs (correct term?),
with the TT-RAM requiring a daughterboard. Moreover, Atari does not
sell this daughterboard separately. So the only way to get TT-RAM is
if the machine is shipped with at least 2megs of TT-RAM from the factory,
and then, I suppose, more TT-RAM can be plugged in later.
About a month ago on Freenet, someone said that a dealer told him that
the TTs were being shipped with SIMMs for both ST- and TT-RAM and that
no daughterboard was necessary.
Which is the correct story here? As much as I'd like to believe the
latter, the former sounds more plausible, at least because it was
reported in a magazine ("but don't believe everything you read" :~).
Can someone who has actually opened their production model TT or someone
from Atari who is clear of the situation, please comment? Thanks.

I think TOS error #35 means that the file is corrupted. You should
obtain a new copy of the program. At least, that's what I do when I get this
