You need to adjust your color monitor. I had to when I first bought my
machine, and have not had to since (so you should not have to do it every
time you switch Hz). However, others have stated that they did not have
as much success. It does not hurt to try though. There are a couple of
marked plastic pot screws embeded in the back of the monitor. Find the
v-hold one and turn (ONLY use a plastic TV screwdriver, and be careful).

Wow, me too. I bought my first computer in 1979, and it was a 16k Atari 800.

When I bought my ST (in '87), I was disappointed by the quality of the color
monitor I received (I'd seen a friend's ST & color monitor -- one of the
original ones that was nice and crisp). Soon thereafter, I took the back off
of the monitor & proceeded to adjust every pot in sight, hoping that I could
get it to look like my friend's. Needless to say, I got everything all out of
whack... I managed to get it looking decent again, but have always wondered
if it's adjusted the way it should be. Can anyone offer suggestions on how
to check my adjustments -- rules of thumb, and the like? Perhaps a color bar
program... That sort of thing...

months ago i started a debate on the (current) weakness of lharc. since
then, it seems nothing has changed: MANY people still have compatibility
problems (at least 10 articles complaining in the last month). and still
we bicker over pennies (i can get bulk DSDD disks for $0.39US each).
and now we have yet another potentially incompatible version, with a
new version numbering scheme. why can't you guys who write these
versions get together and decide on a standard already? i say "potentially"
incompatible because i have not used it nor read its docs. but where
lharc is concerned, it is safe to expect the worst :-(. and the terminator
guys and steve grimm should be on that "committee", too, so we at least
try for compatibility (already). sheesh...

I think GNU SmallTalk is similar. It does seem strange that Atari limited the
machine like this. Surely it wouldn't have been much more work to allow the
MMU to address the full 16 meg that the 68k can? At least it's better than
the Amiga A500 (1 meg max!).

There was some thing posted here , was it last year from a German
chap, that could bank switch the rams to give , was it 6-8 megs, but I
could be wrong, I could still have the Posing stuck on a follopy some where,
if I remember gave details on how to do it.
but a still can't see how you can refresh the rams.

There are plenty of third-party expansion devices to take the A500
to as much as 9 megs; you just can't get such devices from Commodore.

Subject: New version of BASH 1.05 for MiNT

I've just finished a new version of MiNT-BASH 1.05. Question is, do people
want me to post the binary to atari.archive or will the diffs (from the
original (but patched) distribution) suffice?
The new version has the follow advantages over Eric Smith's original port:
o It's about 30k smaller (not much :-( )
o It doesn't die if given a 14 char filename (Minix partition)
o You can now put a hostname in PS1/PS2 prompts (I call my machine
tiny68)
o It doesn't appear to suffer from the bug afflicting both BASH
and ksh which causes them to send themselves SIGSTOP at a
random point in time. (I haven't found the bug, though.)
If anyone wants any other particular features, nows the time to say so. :-)

Speaking of cutting some slack, I flipped through the cable television
channels the other night and caught the last minute or two of a half-hour

A much easier way is to use a formatter that does it for you. Most programs
that offer formatting do (including the hardcoded one in TOS 1.4). For a
quick solution, ps2form.tos from atari.archive.umich.edu works for me. It
will format disks so they can be read by any IBM compat (including the ps/2,
which for some reason has more trouble that others). I have been using it
for about 3 years with no problems. Also, Neodesk 3.0 formats to IBM specs,
as does (I think) Universal Item Selector III.

Well you could try the firm that makes it, Trio Engineering,,
But I think that Spectrum was replaced with Unispec, now Unispec II,
if I remember,
It has the option to copy other sceens to Unispec (Sectrum), can run as
a ACC.
I would like to find out my self if they are still supporting the
Atari computers, ?.

Subject: Using BART for large files

I've been trying to retrieve the file 'printing/gsbin.zoo' with BART, but I
never get a response. I've gotten plenty of other files with BART, so I
believe I'm using it correctly and I've checked the spelling many times. I
think that the fact that this is a large file (605K, according to the Index)
may be the problem. Assuming that this file's size is greater than the daily
retrieval limit with BART, and that I don't have ftp capability, does anyone
have suggestions on how I can get this file?
