How can I do this? I'd like to just be able to copy over all my stuff
from my current hard drive (a home brew with a XEBEC S1410 controller,
BBDP host adaptor, and a Seagate ST225) to the Mega's internal before I
sell my current one. Do I have to do things like set SCSI addresses
etc.? They are currently just left at the defaults of 0, and I must
admit I know very little about this side of things.
Any help?

longj@lonex.radc.af.mil (Jeffrey K. Long) has 4 questions about FSM GDOS:
No, FSM GDOS has not been released yet. Atari is saying 6 weeks, but they
have been saying this for quite some time now.
Yes, the newest beta versions that we have, do include drivers for the
HP laser printers.
No, Goldleaf can not ship FSM until it is released by Atari. But owners
of Wordflair II will be the fist ones to hear about the upgrade and
will be able to purchase it through Goldleaf.

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu
Thanks a lot to those who have emailed me about my question about
modem recently. Now I have one more question. I found that some
of the pc's modems come with Send-Fax capability. Could Atari ST
make use of this function (can ST send fax with these modem)?
If I have a Spectre GCR or any IBM emulators, can I use Mac and
IBM fax softwares to send fax? I came across a fax-modem by
Public Domain Corporation which they came that we can send fax
if we have Spectre GCR or and IBM emulator like AT-Speed. So is
this PDC modem same as those pc's modems that have send fax function?
Thanks in advance.

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu
Yes. There exists an autoboot program named SIMMFIX.
The ONLY thing it does is check if the computer THINKS it has 4 MB
and the MMU says it has 2.5MB. Then, it sets the MEMTOP correctly,
and reboots.
~~~~~~~
- several descriptions are around of what happens then.
Some get bombs, some don't, my computer didn't do anything,
that is, the memtop wasn't corrected at all. I rewrote the
program: it jumped to the hd_init vector (or something sounding
alike) in stead of taking the real reset vector, which had the
effect that my machine (with no Hard Disk) did not reset. I changed
this, and it worked fine.
If I'm talking nonsense, please state so on the news. If someone's interested,
do the same, by mail. At this moment, my STE is at the manufacturer for the
famous
HD-problem (problem #2 :-/ ) for some months already. I have not had the
opportunity
to test anything I said here.
I know this is probably a shot in the dark, but I'm looking
ST. I have the source for the ibm version, but can't get it
The Mtools package is not just a driver for the floppy drive. It is a
collection of MS-DOS style utilities which allow you to read, write, make
directoried, cd, change attributes, etc. It is much easier to use than
the canned stuff Sun provides. Also, the Sun stuff is incredibly picky
about formatting floppies. If it gets just one error, it totally aborts.
I would advise formatting on a PC or your ST, and if you can compile Mtools
use it. It is really nice.
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu
(1)If your OS allows to 'pc mount', you should be able to format/read/
write/'mkfs'/'pc mount' your floppies. Most SPARCstations use 4.1.1,
which is all right.
(2) Otherwise you need to add a floppy drive driver ('mtool' or something
to be 'ftp'ed).
(3) As the physical formatting shouldn't be different (512 bytes/sector),
DOS/TOS, SunOs, Minix diskettes are only differently initialised.
(4) Easiest way is to copy the first 72 sectors (72 x 512 bytes, that is)
from a freshly formatted DOS/TOS diskette to a file and then copy the file
to any diskette. This is equal to initialising the diskette in DOS/TOS
format. (72x512 bytes applies to 1.44 MB diskettes).
(5) A minor problem remains that the Volume Serial Number (TOS's poor
equivalent is three bytes, but the locations are different) and other
info specific to the diskette will be identical to the original.
You can re-write those if you like.
Others have mentioned the "mtools" package. It can be obtained by ftp
from cerl.cecer.army.mil and works quite well.
If you are running SunOS version 4.1, then you have another option.
SunOS now supports MS-DOS file systems. The file system type is
called "pcfs", and it is used with the normal Unix commands, e.g.,
"mount" to mount it, "ls" to list the directory, etc. Since mount
normally requires root privileges, you might need your system
administrator to provide a trivial setuid root program to call mount
with the appropriate arguments. Also, an appropriate entry must be
made in /etc/fstab.
Well from what I have read, its only the CPU that runs at 32 mhz, the
other bits (buss) runs at 16 mhz.
Is it not the same as these 16 mhz Turbo options for the ST, you still keep
you standard Rams and Roms, ie, only the CPU runs at that speed ?.
There is!
I have seen it on the c-bit this year.
It was a st with x-win connected to a unix-tt.
But it was not working too good. :-(
As far as I seen it....
On the other hand there is a programm called UW (unix windows).
I think it was designed for the mac first, but it has been
ported to the st by someone.
After typing *UW* in the first window the host starts Unix-Windows and
from now on you can use, I think about 6, windows.
So I am able to work at different suns at the same time......
Thats fun :-)
(So my st could "have" 100 MIP's ore more... )
so long
