Keyboard Springs Free
These are a set of springs that go under the keyboard to stiffen

I've got a [flaky] 520ST that I'll sell to whoever makes me a reasonable offer.
Flaky means that it works intermittently; sometimes when you boot you'll get
various numbers of bombs on the screen. Not being a hardware type I don't have
the time to get around to finding out what is wrong with it. If you'd like to
use it for parts, repair, or something along those lines...here are the specs:

520ST unexpanded - 6 TOS chip sockets
external single-sided drive
mouse (the plug on the end of the cord has been torn off)

come on...you know you'll have fun fixing it

I had the same problem. Basically, the problem was that Gemini apparently
can ONLY USE PROPORTIONALLY SPACED FONTS. I wanted to use a smaller font that
would allow me to legibly use 24 lines in the Console Window that didn't
extend off of the screen in medium res (wanted to use vi). Using a font
editor, it was apparent that all of the fonts I was trying to use weren't
proportional. Gemini wouldn't even recognize any font that wasn't. I
think that the docs stated that somewhere. I seem to remember reading that
afterwards. Anyway, I finally gave up and went back to using Gulam. Hope
this is helpful.

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

My thanks to all who suggested that FOLDRXXX.PRG was the solution to my
hard drive problems, and apologies to all whom I told that I already had
it installed. I goofed, and it seems to have solved the problem.

My confusion arose because I upgraded my 1-Meg 520 to TOS 1.4 and then
removed FOLDRXXX.PRG from my AUTO folder. Then I bought a Mega-2 over
the net with TOS 1.2 and moved my HD to it without remembering that I
needed to reinstall FOLDRXXX.PRG.

I am however still puzzled. I've had the Mega-2 for about 6 months with
no problems, and the 40-folder problem raised its head only after I
installed Flash 1.6. Someone wrote me that he also had problems after
installing Flash. Anyone have any ideas about this? Keep in mind that
the problems I reported arose almost immediately after rebooting,
whereas previously I could do all kinds of stuff without running into
difficulty. Does Flash greatly up the folder count?

Sounds like you may have run into the "40 folder" limit. If you are running
ICD hard disk software then up the folder limit with the config program,
otherwise get (and use) a copy of FOLDRXXX.PRG.

From my experience,

1. It doesn't work from the auto folder
2. It says the rest - in German (though this is fair enough)
3. There are NO docs readable from outside an Atari system
4. It doesn't work at all (the first Landscape is set at
impossible difficulty: every wall kills you, there
is a flying object that kills, the floor falls out
from beneath your feet, and there are no exits.

Also, I think `DongleWare' is a bit beyond the realms of what I'd like to
see at atari.archive. After downloading 450K at 2400 baud I was, to be blunt,
pissed off. It may be that the levels data is corrupted and this would not
be the author's fault. In fact, as OXYD loaded up and I saw the name

Meinolf Schneider

appear, I thought, ``Great! This guy writes in Modula-2, this is bound to
be a cool program''. And it is - or at least would be if it was playable.

PS. A version of STrabble with support for TT-Medium resolution will appear
soon. I was so glad to see that STrabble ran without a hitch on my friend's
new TT. The TT screen will be almost IDENTICAL to an artist's impression of
a photograph of an IdentiKit make-up of a side-long glance by a blind
octagenarian wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night at a board game
someone once mentioned while under hypnosis recalling a Scrabble tournament
they played in a previous life. If you get my drift.

Subject: Help setting up Sozobon
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

I just tried to get Sozobon set up and seem to have gotten myself in
a bit of a mess.

First off, when I un-zoo'd Sozobon1 and Sozobon2, I kept getting prompts
about what looked like duplicate makefiles, because the un-zooer asked
whether to yes/no/all to the file. I assume this is yes-overwrite, no-
leave, all-overwrite all the time.

That was the first glitch.

Then, after getting it all un-zoo'd, I tried compiling some of the
.c files, and I kept getting an error, 'couldn't find dstart.o',
yet there was a dstart.o in the same directory ( I put EVERYTHING
in the same directory). Do I need to make separate directories for
some of these files? The manual seemed to indicate everything could
be in the same directory.

Let me give you some background on myself: I know nothing about setting
up C compilers; I'm taking a beginning C course and just want to have
something to do simple (at least right now) excercises and such. The class
uses C on a Unix platform (as does my work, which is where I do my homework),
so I'm hoping that the source code will work on my ST with not too much
editing

Thanks, Peter D.

Subject: Vault 3.0 gives me 2 bombs
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

I found a problem with Vault 3.0 a couple of days ago. I was backing up a
partition on to a total of six floppies. I wandered off while each disk was
being formatted and written to do other things. When I left it on one occasion
I returned to find Vault had crashed with two bombs. It had finished writing
the floppy in the drive and was waiting for me to put a new one in.

I restarted the full backup from scratch. Again I left it for about five
minutes at one stage and it crashed again in the same way.

I tried again, but stayed close to the machine. This time I managed to
complete the backup.

It seems it crashed if I left it waiting for a new disk for a few minutes.
Has anyone else noticed this, or is something else going on here?

System details: Mega 4 ST running TOS1.4, blitter and ICD hard disk.

This is the bug that we just tracked down and that Robert Fischer was
referring to in his recent posting. It is caused by an error in the
bell-ringing code. A new version that fixes this bug will be posted
shortly (after some testing). In the meantime, you can avoid the bug
by shutting off the bell. You do this by setting the bell repeat
interval to 0.

Sorry for the problem. It's quite annoying to have a crash in the
middle of a long backup. I know---it's hit me a couple of times, too.
Thanks to you and others for reporting the problem and giving us
enough information to find the cause.
