Sorry for wasting bandwidth, but I couldn't resist :-)

Now there is at least one lame Atari user posting in the Amiga group.

Now, then the Atari is a better Mac than the Amiga. Does this impose
anything on the original machines ? Besides that, both machines cannot
emulate the newest Mac software (Color Quickdraw ?).

Yeah, and with 5000 'hacks' around the world there are 1.495000 users
that cannot enhance an Atari. Ahem, I said enhance, that should say something
about the 'standard' system.
Oh, yes, 832x512 is nice. Signum won't run, Ultima V won't run. Too weeks
ago, I've repaired an Atari ST with the memory upgrade done by the dealer
(I knew some 'hacks' that did it better.)

Hihi, Amigas come with 68030 for some months. And 96% of your software
won't work with it. Oh, yes, the 'TT's out. Anything HAS to work.
> The Amiga is also in another price range. (higher)
Hmm, Atari 1040 about 750DM, A500 about 900DM in Germany.
Mega-Atari 2, about 1800DM, A2000 with 3Meg 2400DM.
Not much difference.

Anybody should be satisfied with what he has (to live with).
I need at least 33 bits per pixel and about 10000 colors from that
palette and (not to be ambitious) 4096x4096 resolution.

Yes, 640x200 in 8 greyscales.

Now if you ditched the Mac, then you should ditch the Atari ST too.
ZX81, there is a hardware mod that allows 384x256 monochrome pixels
(while nothing is computing).

C-Lab Creator $295
Possibly the best MIDI sequencer package for the
ST. Very comprehensive, but still easy to use.
Drumware K1 Ed/Lib $70
A convenient editor/librarian for the Kawai K1
with a very easy to use graphic interface.
WordPerfect ST $125
The Atari version of the most popular WP package
of them all, with a mouse-based interface.
Why am I selling these? Because I sold my Mega 2. Why did I
sell my Mega 2? Because I need the money for a house...
If you're interested in any of these, please reply to this
message or call me at 408-737-4318 daytime (Pacific) or at
408-984-8619 evenings.
Martin.

BELLTEST 2.0
by Gregory Mathias Lemperle-Kerr
(for use with NewBell V1.0 by Dan Wilga)
BellTest pops up a dialog box with the options:
1.) FIND .SND - choose the .SND we are working with
it's speed will be shown in the
dialog box... see below. If it is not
within 1-5 it defaults to 3. If none
of the speeds light up... it's a bug...
but a documented one,... so it's a feature.
Select one before playing or else!
2.) 1-5 Select the speed to play at... after I wrote
it, it turns out 5 is the same as 3... Dan?
3.) Speaker Play the sound, saving it's speed for
future NewBell use.
4.) QUIT Quit the Tao Master's program.
NOTES: NEWBELL.PRG is searched for in current directory, then
in C:\AUTO, then in A:\AUTO. If it can't find it, it
will let you know. (It won't work without it).
Have fun...
-- Greg
P.S. an effort is made to save the screen if memory is available.
if not, deal with a messy screen. (Since I don't know
how to redirect output yet. If you know, e-mail to
cs325ec@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu)
VERSION 2.0 UPDATE:
1.) FIND .SND became LOAD .SND.
2.) Slider bar under speeds now adjusts speed in a wide
variety of increments. Center of slider is
normal speed (at load). As the slider moves to
the right, the SND is sped up in proportion to
x~2. As it moves to the left, it is slown
down in the same way. Slider adjustments also
affect the digitized snd file size. To the right,
the file is shrunk, to the left it is expanded.
This could be a great help, disk space and memory
space wise. The .SND files sound as good at most
of the speeds I've tried. So if a sound loads at
2 or 3, put it at one and speed it up with the slider.
If the slider goes all the way to the right and
it is still not fast enough, save it, load it and
the slider will reposition at center.
3.) SAVE .SND: although the 1,2,3,4 & 5 sounds are saved
when you play them (if the slider is at center),
they are not saved when the slider is moved. To
make your changes permanent click here. BE CAREFUL.
****************************************************
Slider adjustments do change the file structure!
****************************************************
Still PD... I think it's cool though.
-- Greg
P.S. If you slow down a speed with the slider, memory on small
machines (1K or less) may become tight. I don't know,
I have 2.5 meg, but a friend with a 1040 has had no
problems as of yet. You'll be warned if there is a
problem. I had an idiot friend of mine try it out,
so it should be idiot proof now. He caused version
1.0 to crash by attempting to play without loading
prior. :-) That's fixed now. As well as saving.

Since I received no reply the last time I posted this, I will modify it
and try again:
OK
I very much need some info on the Word-Up word processor.
1) What are the major differences between Word-Up v2.0 and 3.0, and are they
great enough to warrant the extra $20-30?
2) Will either version run on a 512K STfm with a Single Sided Drive?
A prompt response would be *greatly* appreciated!
Thanks.

Nope. You might be unable to use 16-bit compression on news-batches and
Your might be limited in Filelength, but the software should run with half
a meg.
]On the ST end, I would suggest using Uniterm, which includes Kermit, among
]other protocols. I have been using it on a 1040ST connected to a VAX with
]VMS 5.2, and have had excellent results with both ASCII and binary files.
Yes, UniTerm is a good choice.
]BTW, I haven't tried Uniterm on a 520 - can someone verify that it works
]with that HW setup?
It isn't that big. You won't have big buffers though. So you can't run
the external Zmodem-programs (need at least 96K system-buffer).

No, actually PageStream can only import PostScript to the extent that it
will dump it to a PostScript printer. Hmm... Fooled again. I'd like
to write a converter since I know the PageStream format if I could
find any PD info on PostScript... anyone?

Steven Klassen recently mentioned problems printing a file starting
%!PS-Adobe.... to a LaserWriter. This may be another manifestation of a
problem that bit me once. There seems to be little consensus on just what
constitutes a "newline" in a text file (e.g. a PostScript programme) on
various systems. I once modified a file on a VAX and got absolutely no
output. Turns out that the LPS40 was not "seeing" the newlines as whitespace
(explains why the guys who wrote the graphics package always put a blank at
the start of each line...), and I had put a % -- i.e. "this line is a comment"
on the first line, so the LPS40 just saw one huge (120K) comment! No wonder
no output...
