I have this desk accessory that formats disk (very fast, either 18 or 35
seconds double sided..) Anyhow.. I was wondering now that I have TOS 1.4,
will the accessory format in the TOS 1.4 format? (The totally Ms-DOs
compatible) or should I just format from the Desktop?

Dear People,

Does anyone there know of an IBM terminal emulator for the ST - ie something
that will let me use screen mode under VM/CMS? (I think there's an IBM 3070
terminal, or something like that)

Also, is there a version of Xedit for the ST around?

I think that the recently posted "vault" and "key" will help you with
this. It allows you to set a threshold for the size of file that
will be split.

And OS9 is "easily" extendible to integrate Networks, CD-Rom, Interprocess-
communication (Sockets), other disk formats and so on, without hacking the
kernel and getting a lot of incompatibilities between programs.
There are indeed some of these extensions.

Here in Karlsruhe there are some Users too. If you use OS9 for some time, you
get used to the features. Then is programming or working under TOS just awful.
Playing games is fine, but if you have a long printout of i.e. Signum you
think: "If this could be done in background.". Or the possibility to switch
to another virtual terminal just in the middle of some text or database
processing and look up some data or format a disk.
I do all my "serious" work with OS9, because it is designed to work with it
and not to have a graphical user interface and nothing else.

The drawback of OS9 is of course the price, but on the long run you can switch
to bigger machines and other manufactures, which you can't do with TOS.

Hi there,
I recently recieved a racal-milgo MPS1223 from a friend whose
office was throwing it out. It looks like some kind of modem, but he is non-
computerate and therefore has no details. Has any one heard of this device? Can
anyone give me instructions on its use, and how I would go about connecting it
to my ST, or should I just dump it?

many thanks,

Nick.

What is the minimum number of chars you have to give shel_read for
the program name and the command line. Is there anywhere documentation
about this?

Does anyone know the status of the new version of DVIST (the .dvi previewer)
that was discussed on the net about 2 months ago? The author (I can't remember)
stated that he should soon release an improved version with support for color
monitors. Although I am getting a monochrome monitor finally :-), it would
be nice to see an improved version of this excellent previewer.

Obviously what they did was just to map the Hercules screen to the ST. Since
Herc expects 720x348 pixels, you will lose some at the edge. The fact that
you have a strip at the bottom which isn't used at all is probably not much
consolation.

I have been unable to get a directory listing of terminator's "New" directory
for some time now. Using FTP I can get a list of all the directories and
see that the "new" directory has an updated time-stamp on it, but when I
do CD to new and then try to do an "ls", I always get back an "unreadable"
message. This only seems to happen in the new dirctory, all the others work
as they always have. Has anyone else seen this problem?
