I've been trying to get Autogem to operate for me.
I've run the BOOTMAKER.PRG and told it which program to load and
the screen text which appears tells me it was successful in creating
the bootable file. I then copied the AUTOBOOT.PRG into my Auto folder
and rebooted my ST (TOS Ver.1.2). The screen text which appears tells me
that AUTOGEM is auto starting my specified program and then I am promptly
returned to the GEM desktop? My program, which is in the root directory,
does not load.
I have only one other program in my auto folder (LGSELECT) which loads
before Autogem.
Anyone have any suggestions? (other than the obvious)

You don't have to use the line numbers in BASIC when you edit your
Proline source. You can pickup MD-BASIC which gives you alot of the
power and comfort of a C compiler but it is actually a BASIC to

a text editor and then compile them into plain-jane Applesoft. You
can setup defines and includes in your source as well as call in libs
and such. It's the ONLY way to program for Applesoft. Also, you can

MD-Basic also comes with a decompiler so you can take plain BASIC
programs and decompile them into MD-Basic source with labels and
word-variables etc, etc.

Dear all (especially Stuart),
I've completed DM1 on the Atari and am
repeating it on the Amiga. This lets you hear monsters and track them
directionally whereas the Atari doesn't. Because of this I found a
room I didn't on the Atari exploration. I heard the sound of a flying
snake/wasp on level 5 but couldn't see it so I went to where it was
loudest and switched on X-ray vision and lo and behold a new room
not shown on my `mjs' map complete with snake and a chest. despite
seeing in I couldnt get in so how....??
We are on level 5 which has the `treasure store' place with four doors
in it. OK ?
Right, coming from the long corridor with four alternate water fountains
take the corridro leading to the treasure store and go up there, turn
right and then left, past another fountain, take one step further, look
left switch on x-ray vision and there we are.
No doubt I am the last person in the world to have found this room but
how do i get in ? and matched the level 4 map and I cant see a way down
from above and from below from level 6 come to that so help please.
PS practising on level 4 and casting potions even though i dont
need to had given me experts all round more or less and i havent even
started level 9. This is to get mega characters for DM2: Chaos Strikes
Back.

Does anybody know who this dedicated user is. Regent Base can still be found
(my local dealer has a copy), but is it still being actively distributed?
I upgraded to version 1.1 a long time ago. At that time Regent Software was
starting to hype up Regent Base II. RBII was supposed to add a lot of features
like full SQL compatibility. I didn't order it at the time, because I didn't
have a need. If it is still available, I might consider picking it up.

I seem to recall that one of the services offered by Regent Software was
the compilation of RB applications into .prg form. This would probably help
with the speed problem. Then again, I could be mistaken about the whole thing.
(Maybe it was a run-only module) Anyway, maybe the new support guy has the
compiler (if it exists) and can distribute it.
On a related note, has anyone tried out Timework's new Data Manager
Professional? Any thoughts you'd care to share?

What about OPUS? Version 2.2 (or is it 2.1 ?) is availabale at
atari.archive.umich.edu in diretory atari/appications. It is very much usable
(full GEM WIMP support) with excellent charting facility. If you register with
the author (D.Harrison) he will send you V2.3 which supports full Lotus 123
file compability & it is by comparison extremely cheap.

If Atari is listening, I'd like to suggest that for the next
version of TOS that they get rid of the "8.3" file name format
restriction and move to "free form 12 character" names. This should
maintain sufficient compatibility with MS-DOS disks because people
who want to maintain this compatibility will simply use file names
with this restriction, but it should allow those of us who are
more Unix (and OS-9) oriented to bridge over on the application
level more easily. Even Unix and OS-9 software that looks for
final extension generally look for the last dot character, so that's
not a serious problem, and those which work on prefixes will finally
become practical.

At atari.archive you can get Sozobon C or even better I
think GNU C. Both are PD or Shareware, but some PD-game
sources are yes fine to compile with GNU C. Both have
assembler, both have a 'make', both are shell versions,
both have a -O (optimize) option. But GNU C has an ANSI C
option.
As an editor you may use the vi or the GNU emacs.

I have been reading this for about a day to find
the answer to my question, but it just isn't here.
So, here it is...
Is there a good terminal program that supports
Xmodem and Kermit and has good VT100, VT320, or
VT420 terminal emulation? If you are aware of
such an animal please send me E-mail as I do not
read this news much at all.
Also Many of you have previously posted about
Xmodem for the Vax. If you are interested in
getting this utility send me E-mail and I will
see about getting it to you.

Can some one tell me what is needed to run Whattahe demo? I tried both high
and medium resolution with my 4096STE and get 4 bombs in both case. Does that
mean it only run on ST?
Also the TCB demo file require some odd format to reload, where is that prog.?

I am in the market for a hard drive and just got a catalog from tech-
specialities in Houston Tx and was wondering if anyone has had any experience
with them. I'm not really interested in buying a complete system from them,
but am interested in buying a host adaptor and they are the only ones i've
seen recently that are advertising them. Also, I know this has been asked
before, but does anyone have any recommendations on which host adaptor to get?
I'm looking at the ICD, but mainly becuase i had good luck with them when i had
my 8-bit. All responses are welcome

I have a 520ST with a 1 mg upgrade + an 30 meg hard drive. I want to find a
televideo emulator. I want to write code on a Xenix system. I don't want to
tamper with the termcap since the company we bought the system from will not
support the software if we mess around with it. Does an emulator exist for
the ST?

Many parts of the Turbo C system were written by a company named
"SoftDesign" in Munich. Their address can be found in some external
programs and the assembler.
BTW: Does anyone have experimented with the redirection vectors in the
MAS.TTP program? At the beginning of the program you find a "patch area"
where the integrated TC version writes down some vectors to input/output
functions for window i/o and access to loaded files etc. The result is that
the same MAS.TTP program is able to output both on a standard TOS screen
or in a window of the TC desktop.

You are, unfortunately, quite correct. I did speak to a representative
that basically knew 2 things.
1. He was on a phone.
and,
2. It was a nice phone.
Other than that, v 3.0.5 was the last and final product released for
MWC.
Mark Williams Company, however, is not dead - only the support for
the Atari.
