Help!! For the past couple years, I've been buying bulk 3.5" DSDD disks from
MEI/MicroCenter. I've bought THOUSANDS of disks from them, starting when they
were $1 per disk. Now they are $.45 per disk and they are shit. Out of each
200 I buy, at least 50-75 of them won't format DS. I figure they are just
using SS disks (because the SS disks are the same price). Back when the
disks were from $.70 - $1 each, they were great disks and it was a great deal.
Now it sucks having to return disks only to get more bad ones. Some of these
disks have "marks" (look like scratches) across the media that I just wonder
is doing to my drive.

I need to find a place that sells bulk DSDD disks, GOOD disks at a good price.
I buy, on the average, 100 a month.

And to think, Computer Shopper says MEI is the people's choice for best value.
HA! They haven't responded to my letters. When I call, they always ask what
kind of computer I have, then tell me to send them back to be cheerfully
replaced. I want them to be good the first time!

Anyone with recommendations, please mail me. Thanks.

The best package I am aware of is PAF from the LDS church. Not only
is it very powerful, but it has a excellent manual, and is CHEAP!!

PAF may be ordered from:

Salt Lake Distribution Center
1999 West 1700 South
Salt Lake City, UT 84104

1-800-537-5950 (credit card orders)

Price is $35.00 including shipping and handling

PAF is available in Macintosh and MSDOS (both 3.5" and 5.25" formats)
Specify disk size when ordering.

The manual for this package is excellent. However, if you have any
questions there are phone numbers in the front of the manual to call,
or you could look up the local Family History Library (Center) in your
phone book under Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If they
are anything like the center here (Las Vegas), the volunteers there
will know of people who can answer just about any question you can
think of.

If you have any more questions, or need more help in acquiring the
package please feel free to contact me again and I will help you in
any way I can.

Earlier replies speculate on the Supra 20 internal configuration.

I have a Supra 10 and it is a Xebec Owl (integrated drive) connected
to Supra'a DMA-SCSI adapter. And the 10 is older than the 20. My
guess would be that it is an integrated drive.

Umm, not quite yet. I should think it will be awhile before this happens.

I used to belong to a users group in this area (Santa Rosa, CA) and there
was no piracy allowed there either.

However, drifting a little further, I have some questions about UGs.

Specifically, how much does your UG charge for PD disks? This group
would charge $5 for members and $10 for non-members to buy a PD disk.

Is this typical? Mail order disks can cost this much. I would think
that UGs would benifit the user a little more as far as PD prices are
concerned.

Here are my two cents:
What if the user wants to redirect handle 2 stderr to the serial port (AUX:)?
Since this is the default assignment for this handle it will be difficult to
manage this case too.
I had two applications for this. Some time ago i wanted to debug a full screen
editor (not emacs :- ) and have sent the debug output to a PC clone. I needed
this output while i was testing the program, not later. Therefore i could not
use a file. The second application needs to redirect all standard handles
(stdin, stdout, stderr). It's a program to run eg. games in a mailbox (for
example nethack). Then stderr IS a terminal, but not the console. And the
mailbox user will not like to play on the console screen (unless he/she is
clear-sighted :-) or sitting before the console).

Now, don't go thinking everyone on this side of the pond is just like RC -
not everyone can be quite as adept with the repartee. ;-)
