OK... Hard drive figured out... I needed a Getpbp(drive) in
front of my Rwabs() call. Now a new question: I saw a while
back that there was a limit to the number of Getbpb() calls
allowed... is this true?

Thanks...

Oh, maybe I should only do a Getbpb if mediach() is true?

Well, looking at the doc's (I'm a second semester German student, and it
helps with stuff from Germany), anyway, the docs also said that it requires
a meg of memory. I only have TOS 1.0, so i haven't dug to far into the
docs.

Yes, a SysV version would be amusing... but what about a newer version
of the one we already have? I would sincerely love to see some sort
of file transfer besides simple capture. Also, I hate adm3a
emulation! Editing files is really awful because the terminal type
lacks certain commands.

Also, in my version... to get rid of the title bars.. and the scroll bars...
I have to switch them to ON, not off... that seems backwards.

hey guys. i thought the world was a great place friday when i finally!!!
received pc ditto II. well, i finally got around to installing it today, and
hey, what do you know, it don't work worth a damn. my major concerns are:

the installation manual refers to a user's manual, which was not in the
box, and there is no user manual info in the installation manual. sheesh.

the installation manual refers to a program called PCD2DIAG.PRG which is
supposed to be on the master disk, but again, no such luck. just the
same sort of files from pc ditto I (ie: pcdmenu (which hasn't even been
updated since pcdI, or at least it looks that way). this is disturbing since
i wouldn't mind knowing what is wrong with the installation (i am assuming
that it is the pal problem since it gets as far as reading the ibm boot
sector, and then it dies)

other observations:

my god, what a big bloody board they're using!!!!! it might as well be a
complete ibm for its size! i originally heard that it was supposed to be
the size of the clip to the 68000. of course the manual doesn't say how or
where it's supposed to mount inside the ST since i can't seem to find
a natural place for this monstrosity.

the cables are skewed and twisted over one another. sheesh. double sheesh.

well, until i get them updated pals, i guess the old st will have to be in
this opened, dishevelled state. unfortunately for avante garde, the whole
deal looks quite unprofessional, and the problems with leaving out entire
manuals/programs mentionned in the installation guide leaves a lot to be
desired!

just a few disgruntled thoughts ...

When you first reported problems with The Vault and The Key, I was
trying my hardest to figure out what might be wrong with the software.
Now that you are experiencing the same problems with GEMINI, I think
it's pretty clear that the problem is not with software but with your
hardware. I would suspect your memory upgrade. There is probably
some bad memory somewhere. The Vault makes use of all available
memory to copy files, so if any memory was bad, corrupted files would
be likely. GEMINI uses memory not used by the normal desktop, so it's
not surprising that GEMINI might run into the bad portion of memory
whereas the standard desktop does not.

I suggest you run a careful memory test. Then, if you do determine that
your problems were due to hardware that you report this fact back on the
net so that the thousands of people who read your original postings about
problems with The Vault and with Gemini can relax and benefit from those
programs.

Subject: Questions On Graphics/One Month?

Hi all,

got a few questions about graphics on the ST.
First of all, I have a file which is broken up into several
UUE files. I need to know how to get them all together and uudecode
I have no trouble uuding single files, but I can't figure out how
to get these together.

Next, can GIF files be converted to DEGAS instead of SPC?
If so , does anyone have the prg to do this?
Can SPC be converted to DEGAS and if so, does any have this prg?

Which GIF's should be converted (in your opinion, I guess) to SPC and
which to DEGAS?

Are there any MACPaint files (.MAC) or Amiga low/med res pictures (.IFF)
available in the bitnet world? (FTP?)
Is there anyway to un-HQX Mac files w/o a Spectre or other emulator?
Are there any .SND files for REPLAY available through FTP?

I called a few places that advertised the TT, STE, STACY (START mag is
great on all this!) and most have told me about a month. Can anyone
support or deny this? Could these machines really be available to
mail order within the month?

Finally, can anyone give me an ? price on the STACY (1,2, or 4, whatever)
and STE computers?

Apple advertises a great deal more than Atari. I saw one report that 40% of
Apple's income goes to advertising. Not a trivial amount.
