One or more of the partitions on the STacy hard disk need to be
converted into Spectre partitions. Just use the format command on the
hard disk menu when Spectre is started.
If the Spectre can't access the hard disk at all (ie. not even
from the startup menu) then they need to change the device/subdevice
menu so that the Spectre does NOT access any of the LUN 1 drives, only
LUN 0. After they change the sub-device menu save the Spectre
configuration and then reboot and try again. There is (or at least was)
a bug in the STacy hard disk, if it saw a reference to LUN 1 the drive
locked up. It wouldn't even respond to commands sent to LUN 0.

Yes, me! Couldn't figure out why, but would appreciate any help. I couldn't even
get Sozobon to run ...

Sorry, what you are asking is a little bit beyond me. The article you
mention may have been by Prof. Mateti, himself. I have had some small
success with some shell commands and aliases, and this ability has
kept me happy using Gulam.
By the way, djd1, I have tried to reach you several times by e-mail,
but, as far as I can tell, have had a lot of failures.

Send email to fdc@watsun.cc.columbia.edu. He wrote Kermit in the first
place and I believe that Columbia has some sort of port for the ST. I
have had excellent luck with the implementation of Kermit on Uniterm,
but some people may prefer getting it from the horse's mouth
(no offense, Frank).

On the ST end, I would suggest using Uniterm, which includes Kermit, among
other protocols. I have been using it on a 1040ST connected to a VAX with
VMS 5.2, and have had excellent results with both ASCII and binary files.
As for the VAX - ask your system manager; it may already be installed. If
not, there are a number of versions available; the cheapest way is probably
via a DECUS tape, which is available for a nominal (for a VAX site) fee.
Or he/she may be able to get it from another VAX site locally; there are no
restrictions on redistribution.
BTW, I haven't tried Uniterm on a 520 - can someone verify that it works
with that HW setup?
Hope this helps.

Dear Netters,
Is there still any server on the net from which files and programs can be
obtained? On BITNET we don't have access to anonymous ftp, but that info
would also be welcome.
Please e-mail to me directly, and I will summarize to the net if enough
interest.
Greetings,

You admit that this is unbelievable and you don't lend any credence to
the person who told you. So why post asking for someone to confirm or
deny? Just assume that anything you don't hear from several sources is
probably false, and things you *do* hear from several sources are
probably false, too. Even things from Atari can be false: I said STe's
might not have SIMM sockets, but that turned out not to be the case.
All you do by posting this rumor is create more confusion. Some people
will believe you, which means people like me have to spend time denying
silly things rather than getting useful work done or disseminating
useful information.
I know that if I don't go out of my way to deny this rumor (as opposed
to discrediting it), people will pounce on me and say, "He didn't deny
it!" ... So here goes: To my knowledge, the TT will ship under the
Atari name. However, I'm not Jack Tramiel, or even Sam, and my
knowledge goes only so far.
