Subject: 2ND DRIVE FOR MEGAFILE 44
Hello from Singapore,
I just collected a CONNER CP3500F, 200MB hard disk and tried to install it
inside the MegaFile 44 box. My intention is to use the Conner ddrive as the
main Hard disk and change the re-connect the Syquest drive as 2nd drive so
that I can use Syquest for backing up the data from the 200MB. However, I ran
into 2 problems as follow:
1. Atari uses Hard disk with SCSI parity disable but the Conner 200MB drive
is factory set with SCSI parity enable. The Conner 100MB has a jumper(E4)
which can be installed to disable SCSI parity. The Conner 200MB PC board
I found the solder points mark E4 but no pins installed for the jumper.
My question is: Is it save to install the pins and use jumper on this drive?
2. Another problem is: The Mega file 44 has an extra 50 pin connector probably
for another SCSI drive on the host adapter board, extra power supply plug as
well as a bracket which pre drilled holes which perfectly match teh mounting
holes on my Conner hard disk. However, when I connect additional hard disk
I can't set the SCSI ID of the new drive. Apparently the SCSI ID is to be
set by the dip switch on host adapter card. The syquest is set at SCSI 0
from factory and when I try changing Syquest HD to SCSI 1 the hard disk is
no longer recognise by the computer.
I came across a message here few months ago that one of the 'GURU' in Germany
had succesfully installed 2nd Hard disk to his MegaFile 44. I shall be most
appreciative if any kind soul Guru will help me on the above problems.

Subject: AMIGA 3000 & ATARI TT
Hello from Singapore,
Below is on of the messages I receive from Info_amiga List.
Should I wait for the Atari TT or should I dump my Mega 4 and get Amiga 3000?
The 25Mhz version must be fantastic.
Don't get me wrong. I like Atari and I have been using the Atari since 1985.
I still have the first 520ST as well as Mega 4. However, the following new is
so tempting. I prefer to use my Mega4 with Turbo16 chip and Spectre GCR than
the Mac Plus which given to me by the University. I am now waiting for the TT.
But with only 16MHz? I am not so sure now whether I should keep on waiting.
I am not intend to start the flame war. My point is that
Atari never bother to offer educational discount and now my students can buy
a Mac SE with Hard disk for lot less than getting Mega 2 + Monochrome Monitor
and no hard disk. They also get free Hypercard with the Mac. Of course we all
know that the Mega is far superior but I can no longer recommend them to by
Atari with 10% discount when they can get 40% discount from Apple.

Here's the basics once again on the Commodore Student Dicounts:
1. All certified schools, teachers at such schools, and ONLY
post-secondary students qualify.
2. The necessary forms and current price list are available only
through your local dealers. Contact C= if you need to find one.
3. The discounts are from 45% to 50% on packaged systems. Separate
components are at 40% off and must be purchased with a CPU (unless the
component deal has been extended again.)
4. Payment is upfront in cash or certified check, only one purchase
per year, and lots of other assorted legalese.
And now for the rumors: I heard a few days ago from the local dealer that
the A3000 will be available on the discount plan at the same savings. A
hypothesized system of an A3000/16 and a multisync monitor should be right
around $2000. Definitely not bad.

Thanks for all the response. If I haven't contacted you yet (with the
exception of Marshall Lake - please send a phone #), sorry, but the
games have all been sold. I have found GEnie to be an excellent source
of pre-owned games, you might try there.
Again, thanks for asking. My wife thanks you.

In responding to Stephen Jacobs message of 4/30/90 where he says:
>In the article this is responding to, Bob Brodie is said to have stated that
>the TT passed FCC Approval (That, that would mean the TTp, and class A, but
>still...). I hope someone from Atari will brag a bit more to us if this is
>true. If it's true, what configuration--memory, video hardware, ect?
Steve, that is not what I stated at the meeting. I said that it is on it's
way to the FCC. To the best of my knowledge, it has not been certified.
Hope that clears that up for you. We'll save the bragging for later, when all
is passed from Uncle Charlie.
Best Regards,
Bob Brodie

Very simply, is there a C++ compiler available for the ST?
Thanks,

Message-ID: <10497@mentor.cc.purdue.edu>
Hello Netters,
I have an unused, 1 year old ICD host adapter. I bought it planning to
put together my own HD system, but was having so much trouble with the
old hard drive I bought that I bought a Megafile 30.
I'll send it, the original ICD disk and documentation
and a ICD HA to SCSI cable (no Atari DMA cable included) postage paid
to the first offer of $80 OBO.
Oh yes, it also comes with the ICD mounting plate.

I think that the recently posted "vault" and "key" will help you with
this. It allows you to set a threshold for the size of file that
will be split.

i believe that this is the limit that TOS 1.4 and onwards has imposed
for GEM autoboot programs. If you try to install more than one
autoboot program, only the last one will be installed.
Not really a problem, but a limitation of the desktop.
