If that fellow was me, I think I said to look for ANIMATE (without the 4)
as well as ANIMATE4. (I could have been in a daze however. :~)
In any case, I just downloaded the file and double-checked to make sure I
still wasn't in that daze, y'know from staring at a computer screen for
hours. The file is ANIMATE.LZH and can be found in atari/graphics at
atari.archive.umich.edu. The file contains ANIMATE4.PRG and ANIMATE4.DOC.

I've seen the ACER on an ST and I thought it was pretty bad; not even worth
considering. You'd be better off with an Atari monochrome and color monitor.
There are other multisyncs which are better. When I was looking for
multisyncs, I compiled a bunch of info about them. You can find this info
at atari.archive under the filename multsync.lzh. I have an NEC 3D, but there
are other multisyncs which are comparible. There's certain guidelines the
multisync must adhere to in order to work on the ST in all modes.

There are several choices though for the Apple // series. Proline gets
lots of raves it seems. GBBS "Pro" is nice, and you're not restricted to
using AppleSoft BASIC. (It's nice to get away from line numbers once in
awhile.) Its language (ACOS) is similar to BASIC, but is more structured.
METAL though is a rather new Apple BBS language, has lots of the features
of the ACOS language, but adds a lot more. I'm still catching up with the
documentation that came with the disks, and that by no means is the entire
manual. The packaged program Future Visions is nice, comes ready for
networking, and is easily editable by any text editor from Freewriter to
ProTERM to AppleWorks, and even editable ONLINE (as is ACOS). Its only
problem right now is that it is so new that it lacks some drivers, namely
printer drivers and support for some modems, like my DataLink 2400
internal. It has a lot going for it though, including some of the
features others have mentioned that Proline has. (Sorry guys, didn't know
it would run on a non-GS.) I believe you can also use ANSI with it, and
several other emulations.

X-OR is NOT a multitasking tool with OMEGA as is CUBASE's MIDI MANAGER.
Although, OMEGA, I feel, is better then CUBASE. I've used both and
CUBASE is a lot buggier then OMEGA and very sluggish. It's like
working in jello. OMEGA is fast and direct.
The only way to utilize XOR and OMEGA is to have 2 ATARI's. I'm going to
try that soon.

Check out HOSPITAL, AZT or AZTA, VKILL381 (Virus Killer 3.81). These are
virus checker programs, each are a little different in their functions. I
don't know about one that checks for general unauthorized access (other
than for viruses), but there are ones that will lock out a user from
accessing a drive. One is the shareware version of Quick Lock (which is
now a part of the commercial Quick Tools) and there's also a desk
accessory by Tim Purves I believe called Protector or something, which
does the same as Quick Lock.
On a related note, I've heard that it's difficult or 'impossible' to get a
virus on an ST hard disk, like the floppy boot sector type, because of the
way the ST and hard drive communicate or something. Is this true?

When I start up or shut down my megafile 60 it always makes and has
made a cracking/ noisy sound. After it has startup it doesn't make
this sound no longer, and works just fine.
I wonder if anyone else has this cracking sound with their megafiles.
Perhaps, can anyone tell me what makes this sound?
Is it normal?

Is there a public domain/shareware C editor/complier available for the ST? If
possible, I would like to get it via FTP through the atari.archive. Also, is
there a pd assembler for the ST? (I would like to have a dissassebler too..)

assembly (or C) please mail me. I could use a little help once in a while,
maybe some sample pieces of code, etc..

(To Whom it may Concern: Sorry about my last message, but it's not MY
fault...I'm netted through the crumbiest editor in existence...)
Now, about MIDI sound in Ultima III, it is only on one channel (not like
King's Quest V, or so), but even that one channel is better than the
squeaky sound of the monitor speaker...Plus, you can change the sound
by using another preset. (Ultima VI has full MIDI support on the IBM, so
it should be even easier for full MIDI on an ST...)

Hello--
I'm trying to get Zmodem working on our VAX system here, as
(I hope) a faster alternative to KERMIT. I've got things set up at
my end--XYZ.PRG and shell--but the SZ.EXE program on the VAX doesn't
seem to want to work. I've got it "installed" all right, using the
:= convention; but when I try to run it, I get a vax error message
saying "Image header descriptor length is invalid."
Does this sound familiar to anyone? And is it something I can
work around, or is it a problem in the .EXE file?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated (probably best sent
directly to me by Email, since this isn't really a VAX group!)...

Yes. Use: zoo 'x//.' file.zoo
The quotes are needed for many shells to protect the slashes; they are
not passed to zoo.
