I think I have found out a way how to transfer money from
America to Germany with a minimum of additional costs. If you
would like to send me money - say $15 for my Arcgsh - you can
proceed as follows:
- Get one of your normal cheque forms (no Eurocheque or
something like that needed) and fill in the amount of money
you want to transfer. Now comes something very important:
Write the amount in your local currency, say US$ or Cdn$ or
whatever else it might be! Do _not_ make the cheque out in
DM (Deutsche Mark)!
- Put the cheque into an envelope and send it to me by mail.
What shall I do with the cheque? I shall not take it to a
bank to receive the money. They will charge me at least
about DM 17 (ca. US$ 10)! Instead: I shall send it to my
Postgiroamt. They will perform something called "simplified
foreign cheque draw in" (my attempt to translate office
german into english, sorry). This costs only DM 0.80!
Summary: Minimum additional costs for the sender (standard
cheque form, envelope, postage), minimum costs for the receiver
(DM 0.80).
Who is willing to try it out?

I am working on a scientific graphing program that uses GDOS to produce
great printed results. Right now, I can produce a metafile, which you have
to print out with OUTPRINT.PRG or a similar program. I would like to be
able to print directly to the printer. In my meta file code I set
work_in[0] to 31 to tell it to do a meta file. I thought by setting it to
21 instead I could get it to print to the printer, but it only ejects a
blank page. I am using a coordinate system ranging from 0, 0 to 32767,
32767. I asked about this before and got no replies. Can anybody help?

Another part of the answer may be: We had an enourmous 64 underground
scene here in Germany. When the ST came out, most cracking groups
and most hackers readily accepted it. They bought it because they
knew at once that this might be THEIR computer. It was and is cheap,
it is fast and relatively easy to program. They crawled deeply into
the machine and wrote the first programs before ATARI came out
with anything decent. This in turn triggered the user market to
grow and set the pace for the rest of Europe. For some reason,
this didn't happen in the U.S. Maybe all the 64 hackers had already
bought PCs before the ST came out.

Does anyone know if there is a public domain version of OPUS that
runs on 1/2 meg machines with a single sided drive?
Thanks,

Could you please elaborate? I thought TOS 1.4 fixed the
folder problem. Should one *always* use FOLDRXXX?
Actually, although I've heard a lot about this bug, I've never
read a consistent description of the problem.

I'm looking for info about a product called DC-PORT. According to
Double Click software it expands ST's rs-lines to three. I have
their address, but I would like to make my order by phone using
Visa.
The problem is that I do not know their telephone number,
would someone please email it to me. Email address would also
be great help.

Yes, DC Port gives an extra two serial ports, tacked on to the cartridge
port (they also have a version that gives a total of 5 ports--ARMUDIC,
a club BBS in the Wash, DC area uses the 4-port version; works like a charm
with Michtron BBS 3.0!).
Anyway, I don't think DC is set up to take Visa charges. I've been over
my hardcopy shareware docs as well as the DC Utils manual, and can't find
a phone number. However, their address is:
Double Click Software
P.O. Box 741206
Houston, Texas 77274
DC also runs a bulletin board at (713)-944-0108. (300/1200 baud only).
Mike Vederman reads the Net, too. The address is uace0@uhnix2
(or was when my shareware docs were printed)

Hey Netters,
Enough! I must build a huge hard drive for my system! Floppies are
for the birds. I know how to do it in general terms (get drives, host adapter,
and controller card, bolt them into a casing), but I do not know what type of
drives to get. Can I use SCSI drives (ie 229n's), or is there a cheaper way
to go. I also want to get the drive units themselves used if possible (not
much cash here). Can anyone tell me a place that sells such drives? I seem
to remember a list of ST usable HD mechs floating around the net, can someone
send me it? I have decided to get an ICD host adaptor, but all I know about
the controller card is that an Adaptec 4000 will work. Any better solutions?
I want to build a system with at least 60 megs, but the more the merrier. If
possible (and if it is cheap enough), I wish to get two mechs, to increase
the chance of saving half my stuff if one crashes. Is this a good idea? Also,
I am waiting (in vain, it seems) for a friend to produce some 65mb 28ms 5.25"
drives, used, $250. Is this a good deal? I do not know the specific make, but
he has one working on his system. I am sick of waiting, someone tell me a
place where I can get close to this deal (if it is a good one)!!!!!
