There are quite a large number of sound files available in the Macintosh
archives. You'd need a Macintosh with BINHEX and, probably, UNSIT to convert
them to binary form. I did this with several of the files using a program which
appeared in STart a while back.
The Macintosh archives are on sumex-aim.stanford.edu [36.44.0.6]

I wouldn't blame Ravi for this. Many reasons could be found to explain the
loss of your messages. I have dared to use this group to reach people I could
not mail directly, maybe you should have, too.

That would be VERY nice. Maybe something good comes from my flame after all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I will.
I didn't mean to pick on those who took part in that discussion. It just so
happened to be the one I was second-least interested in. Sorry.
Thanks for responding. So it seems that there are several possible options
for digest takeover ... this makes me feel better.
Finally, a word of thanks to those who sent me personal mail. Not one flame,
all 6 messages agreed with me (Russ Evans suggested I should mention this :-).
Also, thanks for your msg to John R. Dunning, and I hope you feel a little less
discouraged now.
I have a SuperCharger and have absolutely nothing but good things to say
about it! Its simple, easy to use, and I have yet to find anything that
doesn't run on it! I did a full review of the unit in the last ST-Report
nr. 407. SuperCharger promises to blow PC_Ditto II and PC-Speed clear out
of the water.
It would be neat to have a simple utility for the AUTO folder which makes
the right mouse-button on the ST function as a double-click. If it followed
the rules it would be transparent to applications, except for those (such as
Interlink) which use the right mouse-button for other purposes. Of course,
it should be possible to disable it with a key-combination...
Has anyone seen a program that does this? If not I could attempt to write
it, with a few clues. Advice, anybody?
I have been toying with writing a printer routine to print pictures
hopefuly better in quality than a screen dump. However I have looked at the
magazines available to me (and Books), and found very little information.
Currently I am working from Basic, and can load fonts and print them easy
enough. But when it comes to scaling an image and printing the dots Im lost.
Is this a real non-starter? Any help, suggestions and info would be
gratefully recieved.
Many thanks,
Nick.
PS. I hope that this list does not 'pop its cloggs'. It is a very useful
forum for the exchange of views, information etc vital for a healthy
ST user base. Thanks to those who run it now and to those in the future.
Please stop using Line-A-functions NOW. All programs using Line-A won't
and CAN't run properly on Mega-St-Color-cards (8-Bit == 256 Colors!!!) or
on the TT.
THIS GUY IS GOING TOTALLY CRAZY!!!
----------------------------------
Response to my "spring cleaning" has been pretty great so far,
my ICD drive now appears to have a new home (its all over except
for the arrival of the check) and my ToadFile 44 is now on order!
[Jeesz, these drives must be selling like hotcakes!! When I called
Toad was waiting on shipments of mechs, cartridges, and 3.5 inch
floppy drives!]
But I'm not done yet!!!
Even more STuff For Sale:
-------------------------
No, I haven't mastered it yet, but last weekend I took the big
plunge and bought myself a new Atari Postscript laser printer!
(thanks to Rory Freeman's great sale prices at Computers Etc. in
Fairfield, CT) So that means the dot-matrix is next on the
chopping block. Yes, yes, I know - I should keep the dot-matrix
anyway, but right now I need the $$$ more than I need the dot-
matrix. So out it goes!!
Epson LQ-850 24-pin dot-matrix printer. $400
This printer has become the standard by which other printers
are judged. The print is clean and crisp and its *fast*. Draft
quality print hums at 288cps and letter quality at 88cps. The
letter quality is truly practically indistinquishable from
typewritten text too! Its also very quiet.
I bought the printer a little over a year ago and used it one
semester primarily for one major research paper (and a few other
papers) I had to finish before they finally agreed to give me my
college degree after six years of late nights. Other than that I
use it about an half an hour a week to print out Diplomacy game
orders (I run Diplomacy games in the Games RT) and thats it.
The printer is like new and has been very well taken care of,
with the printer I will include all the extra unopened ribbons I
have lying around (I think I have 3-4, and they cost about $5-7 a
pop.)
