CPU and Internal Disc-drive: old tos in rom

DEGAS paint program.
I have the original boxes and most of the original manuals. The
machine is in excellent shape. I now use it mostly for a terminal.

Word Writer ST : Excellent word proccessor with spelling checker.
Asking $40 or BO.
Interlink ST: Awsome Telecommunications program with scripting.
Asking $25 or BO.
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing: Typing tutor program.

EZ Track: Simple midi sequencer program.

EZ Score Plus: Very nice begining music scoring program.

All programs come with original manuals. If you think the prices are too
high, let me know. I'm only guessing at what I think they are worth.

ATARI 8bit Hardware:
Atari 1027 printer: letter quality, friction feed.
Atari 410 program cassette recorder: a classic form of
storage.
Make me an offer on either of these. They have been sitting in
my closet since I sold my 800XL years ago. I have now idea what they are
worth. They both worked the last time they were used.

Yes in fact you do! C! Call vst_load_fonts(handle,select) where h/dle is
your virtual workstation handle, and select is 0. All of your fonts will
be loaded into memory in one time-consuming bunch at this point (this, I
am lead to believe is what is meant by setting select to 0, future
revisions of GDOS will allow you use other numbers, in order to select
specific fonts to load).
One useful thing to do just after loading up fonts, is performing a call
to vq_extnd(handle,owflag,work_out), where owflag is set to zero,
meaning you'd like to know the current status of the regular,
non-extended work_out variables. work_out[10] will contain the number of
fonts available to you now. To know the names of these fonts, or
anything else for that matter, you can use the calls vqt_name and
vqt_fontinfo respectively.
To set any particular font, simply call vst_font(handle,font) where font
represents the N'th fonl loaded by vst_load_fonts. What you can expect
back from the call is the font number (that integer that is unique to
each GDOS face) :-( I've always wished that you could call the fonts by
this ID rather than the way things really work.
Above I mentioned a future release of GDOS, the ramifications of this
are, unfortunaltely, that your version 1.1 is the latest to be released.
We can all dream of 2.0 (which the rumour mill says is on its way), the
features of which I won't speculate about (although if you live close
to a rumour mill, you're sure to hear about individually loadable fonts,
bezier curves, maybe even outline fonts :-)) )

I feel better now, sorry about the fouling of the brain
waves!
Is there anyone out there who knows of any ftp sites in the
US or elsewhere where one can obtain atari demo's software,
utilities, games e.t.c and the required logon procedures. I
would be very happy to receive any feedback at all(hopefully
not all negative!). Please leave a message or if you feel
brave enough try mailing me directly.
I have one of the 'newish' atari ST FM's not one of the new
E's. By the way how good is the E?. I have heard rumours that
it doesn't load all the st software e.g ikari,certain
spreadsheets and is not entirely compatible with the old
St's. It is also not very good with the Pc emulator Ditto.
Has anyone out there got any expertise on the matter??
Having one of the newish ST's means that i have surface
mounted chips and i am having difficulty upgrading to one meg
without spending a lot of money as a special machine is
required to change the chips. Does anyone know of any
addresses of reliable, cheap (does it exist?) firms, in the UK
if possible, that will do upgrades? Have any whizzes out
there overcome such difficulties?

After reading thru the MINIX newsgroup, my intrest about ST MINIX has
really grown... I would love to hear from anyone out there that has
purchased the package, as well as anyone else who has two cents to
put in. Specifically, does it support multitasking, multiple users,
that kind of thing? Can you still run TOS programs from inside it?
Would you consider it useful to people who aren't real unix gurus?
Also, along that same lines, what about Dave's Multitasking C-Shell?
Can it do any of the aforementioned neato-keen stuff?
Also, further down that same set of lines, I'd love to get some
feedback from anyone who has a form of UUCP running on their ST,
and USENET ect...

Your explanation of why Atari releases products in Europe before Noth
America isn't too convincing. Atari does NOT regard N.A. as a
potentially larger market than Europe, since they do very little to
supply and service N.A. Something like 90% of sales are in Europe. The
real difference is that in Europe Atari is established as a machine that
can do serious work, it got in before IBM and the Macintosh and is doing
well; whereas in N.A. it has a poor profile and marketing is a constant
upward battle.
Canadians understand this idea of our being regarded as peripheral to
the main market very well. Perhaps this is why we have coped with it
and, as a result, the ST is doing far, far better in Canada than south
of the border. Americans, on the other hand, are outraged at the
suggestion that they are not the centre (Cdn. spelling) of Atari's
strategy. I'd add that, in general, Americans are outraged at the idea
that they are not the centre of the world, but that would be a cheap
shot. Besides, they are awfully nice people, if a little self-involved.
