Does anyone know anything about "the run" and "robocop" demos. I think ST
Action (maybe ST Format) said they were both incredible. I haven't seen
them on atari.archive, and was wondering if anyone could put them there?

I'm having trouble getting files to uncompress properly that have the
Z extension. I'm talking about the sound files on terminator. I believe I
have the proper programs to uncompress them but I must be doing something
wrong. I have followed the directions in the documentation but still have had
no luck. Could someone please mail me any instructions on what I am doing
wrong(or better yet, how do I do it right!) Thanks in advance

Here are the trouble shooting instructions from my ZRAM board:

MACHINE BOOTS FINE WITH NO EXTRA MEMORY: Visually check every RAM
chip pin to make sure no pins are bent or out of the socket. This
is very common. Other possibility is pingrid board is not making
contact. Reseat pingrid board. If problem still persists make
sure epoxy is still on the two pins of the pingrid board. If off,
follow directions below.

PULLING THE BOARDS OUT. AIRGAPS LEFT: If you pull out the pingrid
board and try to boot up the ST, you will not be able to do so
because of the two epoxied pins leaving air-gaps in the contacts.
Inorder to fix this, pull out the MMU chip and take a pointed
razor blade and pull the socket contact out towards the MMU.

EPOXY FALLEN OFF: Follow above directions to pull out the MMU chip.
Inspect the chip to make sure that all the MMU pins are straight and
do not short on the bottom. Straighten with fingernails if needed.
Now get some electrical or masking tape and cut a very thin piece
and put it on the MMU socket contacts pin #8 and #18 where the
epoxied sides of the pingrid board go in.

According to the MMU pinout diagram the two epoxied pins, #8 and #18
are RAS0 and RAS1, respectively.

I had the same problem with my machine only recognizing .5 MB of
memory. My problem was that the epoxy had come off pin #8. If
the instructions above do not help, try calling the company. They
were very friendly, and helpful to me. ZRAM is made by:

The PS3000 -was- released; an acquaintance o' mine has one...
It has a -color- monitor, disk drive built-in along w/ the mother board;
plug in keyboard...
One reason people didn't like it was because if the monitor or disk drive
went out, you had a dead system... Just like the Mac, but no one seems to
realize the problem of such a system...
The PS3000 -is- cute, though... Ron.

you can assign a function key to call an external zmodem. somebody
posted a macro file to do just that, and if you want I can mail you a copy.
You can also reassign keys to your heart's content. My 520 is a bit crowded
for uniterm--with what else I have (control panel and file selector) I don't
have room to have a history buffer, or run another program, but your
1040 should be plenty big enough.

unless there's a newer and better version, this doesn't do any
fancy terminal emulation.
STTerm is available at atari.archive. No GEM goodies, very
"procomm"y feel, but will do vt-100.

Cold anybody explain why Turbo C 2.0 takes a long constant like this:

ffff8e20 and turns it into -> 8e20 then takes
00ff8e20 -> ffff8e20???

I had this occur when I was working on my app program..MOST ANNOYING.

It seems to only generate the correct address when you insert the two 00's

This is an item I feel is not worth talking about as well. The machine is
portable, so who cares if it hooks up to a monitor or not. I think the
original poster wants a machine to replace his current machine, so he can
have a "double-duty" machine, not two separate ones.

This is where I think you are wrong. The Panasonic CF-170 (or Tandy 1500HD,
same machine) has both a 20 meg hard drives and a 1.44meg disk drive built-in
to a really nice notebook machine. The hard drive is a nice 2.5" Conner
CP-2024 and is really fast (14ms). It also has room for a 2400baud modem
internally, and after looking inside, I found that they could have added more
if they wanted to.

I don't know why you guys can't just go totally with 1.44meg drives. Gee, a
high density controller for the PC can be had for $30, so the parts can't be
that expensive.

While I feel its nice that the machine does have expansion, I dread the idea
of another interface thingy hanging off the machine. With my ST, I had a
machine around 3 feet wide counting all the crap hanging off the ends.

Before making machines, maybe you should...

(1) Ask some people what they want.
(2) Check out the competitors machines.
(3) Think.

I know doing these might add some time to the process, but other people seem
to do it and come out with machines in a decent time-frame.

While it would be nice if the laptop had the JEIDA card socket, I really don't
think it would be necessary. Anyway, how expensive is it to add one of those
sockets to the machine. The whole PC card setup only costs $79.95, so it
can't really cost that much.

dealing with this crap, I feel that I have a right to say something.

To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

To use this ballot, just hit "R". Once in your editor, insert your game
rating between the word "vote" and the system code and game title. Your
rating must be an integer between 1 and 10. There must be at least one
blank on either side of your rating. Make sure the word vote appears at
the start of each rating.

If you do not want to rate a particular game, just DELETE THAT LINE FROM
THE BALLOT. When you are finished, SAVE THE FILE, and exit the editor.
The votes will be sent to the game rating tabulator.

The general guideline for ratings is:

8-10 worth buying at full price
6-7 worth buying at a discount, or if you're particularly interested
in this kind of game
3-5 only worth renting
2 only worth playing for free, and only for a few minutes
1 worthless

If you want to vote for additional games, just add them at the end, in
a format similar to the existing entries. Be sure to include the system
code right before the title. This code is one of the below:

AL = Atari Lynx AM = Commodore Amiga
GB = Nintendo Game Boy GS = Apple II GS
MA = Apple Macintosh NE = Nintendo NES and Famicom
PC = IBM PC, PS/2, and compatibles SG = Sega Genesis and MegaDrive
SF = Nintendo Super Famicom ST = Atari ST
TG = NEC TurboGrafx-16, TurboExpress,
and PC Engine

Thanks for participating in the rec.games.video ratings poll. (This
text was adapted from Chuck Musciano's rec.arts.movies ballots and John
Leo's rec.games.video ballots.)

PLEASE DELETE TITLES WHICH YOU WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR.

In this list, games have been rated on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the
best and 1 being the worst. For each game, the total number of votes,
the average rating, and the vote distribution are shown. New games are
indicated by a "*" before their entry. If a "(C)" appears after the
title it means that the game is a CD-ROM or disc system title. If a
"(J)" appears after the title it means that the game is currently only
available in Japan.

The general guideline for ratings is:

8-10 worth buying at full price
6-7 worth buying at a discount, or if you're particularly interested
in this kind of game
3-5 only worth renting
2 only worth playing for free, and only for a few minutes
1 worthless

The vote distribution uses a single character to represent the
percentage of votes for each ranking. The following character codes can
appear:

"." no votes cast "3" 30-39% of the votes "7" 70-79% of the votes
"0" 1-9% of the votes "4" 40-49% of the votes "8" 80-89% of the votes
"1" 10-19% of the votes "5" 50-59% of the votes "9" 90-99% of the votes
"2" 20-29% of the votes "6" 60-69% of the votes "*" 100% of the votes

Please consult the article entitled "ABOUT THE VIDEO GAME RATINGS REPORT"
in the newsgroup rec.games.video for more details, including information

Subject: Wanted Mac ROMs (128K) for GCR
To: Info-Atari16@naucse.cse.nau.edu

Hello folks,

A friend of mine is looking for 128K Mac ROMs (for the spectre GCR). Anyone
have some to sell or know of a mail order source. They used to be available
through all the normal ST mailorder houses, but no longer are.

Thanks!!!
