I have an INDUS GT-1000 external 5.25" drive, and my 1040STe hates it.
The booting software that came with the drive won't work on the STe.
And Future Systems (the makers of the drive) knew nothing about it.
They were nice enough to send me another program that they thought might
help, but no...
Recently my drive was giving me a NEW problem! (besides the fact that if
the GT-1000 is connected and off, the internal drive corrupts disks when
it trys to write to them)..
When I try to look at the external disk, it wants me to insert disk B into
drive A, as if the external drive wasn't even there!! BUT, to make things
weirder, PC-DITTO accesses it fine!!
I tried it on a friend's MEGA2, and had the problem the first time, rebooted
and didn't have the problem since... On my computer either (but I haven't
tried it many times...)

I regret to announce that I am parting with my beloved 1040st.
Alas, I attend a True Blue university, so I'm forced to downgrade
to a pc compatable.
A short description of what is for sale:
1040STf with internal 3.5" drive, 1meg RAM
Atari SC1224 color monitor
( 640x200 4-color or 320x200 16 color graphics )
Software: Megamax C compiler
Forth
68000 macroassembler
3 (count them, _three_ :-) different versions of BASIC
(one interpreter and two different interactive compilers)
First Word word processor
Spectrum512 paint program
(512 colors on screen at once! oooh, aaahh..)
a few miscellaneous games and a bunch of public domain stuff
including Gulam UNIX shell, Emacs, and a bunch of graphics
stuff including a ray tracer.
Manuals included for all languages.
Asking price: $950 (Canadian) or best offer.

drive, to wit, lots of bad sectors, problems reading from the disc, etc.
One thing to check, if you've assembled the drive yourself, is to see if
the Adaptec controller card is sitting too close to the drive's own
controller electronics. I had a variation of your problem which went like
this:
Everything opened up and laid on the table--drive, controller, BMS board;
in this configuration, everything was seperated, and the drive would format
and read/write just fine.
Everything boxed up in the case, Adaptec board mounted to bottom of drive,
next to drive electronics: Can't format drive, too many bad sectors.
(So how come they put mounting holes for a controller on the bottom of the
drive then???)
Cobble up a mounting bracket, move Adaptec to top of drive. Now the drive
controller cable (34 pin) and drive data cable (20 pin) are coming up the
back of the drive and over onto the Adaptec; they are no longer running
next to the drive electronics. Result: Can format drive, and use it, but
get intermittent read/write errors, (often filenames 'change' with one
or two characters becoming garbage).
Ok, now I'm getting pissed. Get out the aluminum foil and the soldering
iron. Make a sandwich of cardboard and aluminum foil (carboard outside)
and put one between adaptec and drive. Do the same thing for the back of
the drive, so that the drive control and data cables are outside of the
sandwich, and the back of the drive is on the inside. Do the same
for the bottom of the drive. Enclose my SCSI<->ASCI board in another
couple of these sandwiches. Run ground wires from the aluminum to the
ground on the various boards.
Everything works fine now. Shees!
Moral: You may need shielding, lots of it.

Adaptec sells a SCSI to Ethernet board.
Installed, it cost $500-$1000 per node; so not much work has been done
in the Atari world to support it with software.
Modern SCSI interfaces for the Atari, such as the BMS-200 can handle chaining
these boards along with the Disk Drive interfaces.

Hello everyone!
This is my first post so I am sorry if there are any mistakes. I am in great
need of a program to redirect PostScript printer output from TimeWorks
Desktop Publisher to a file. Does anyone have a program to do this?
I want to save the file to disk then upload it to the schools laser printer.

There is a program called BARREL that will do this. I think it can be ftp'd
from terminator.cc.umich.edu ( 35.1.33.8 ). The name of the file is called
appropriately, barrel.arc.

like to do is to change some of the key bindings in gulam/ue. I've tried
the kb command, but I must be doing something wrong.
I tried "kb -r 07f 1d" to change the function of the delete key from
~H to ~D in the regular buffer (also tried -g -m for gulam and mini buffers
with no luck). What am I doing wrong? (also, if you don't specify -r -g
or -m, will kb change the defs for all three buffers?)
Anybody know what's wrong?
