From the review in the German magazine c't, March -90
Available resolutions
640 x 608 60 Hz
832 x 624 50 Hz
640 x 480 75 Hz
704 x 496 71 Hz
640 x 400 87 Hz
Mega-ST only (needs the expansion plug)
Needs TOS 1.2 or later.
Only in monochrome mode.
General stuff
Seems to require a multisynch monitor because of the
large number of resolutions. I don't know about
that, what about running with the normal monochrome
monitor in 704 x 496 mode ?? (This mode only, of
couse, but still.)
Made from a Hitachi video controller, and four small
chips (say three normal TTL chips and one PAL). Works
by reprogramming the video timing and using a larger
amount of Atari video memory.
The name is MegaScreen, the manufacturer is WGR
ComputerSysteme (no address given in the test, no ads found
in the magazine).
Should be usable on all ``well-behaved'' programs....... .
I can't see how they could make the 640 x 400 mode
incompatible, as far as placement of video meory goes,
so I should think that in 640 x 400 mode the ``dirty''
programs could write to the screen memeory as they like
(although the programs may break on the higher frequency..).
Comes with software for the AUTO folder, plus a configuration
program.
That's about it, very small test for c't (only two pages, no screen shot).
In the May issue of c't, a card using the INTEL 8xxxxx graphics controller
and 1MB memory, is tested, HOT STUFF !!. Claimed to sell with monochrome
19" monitor for the 1660 x 1200 mode for 5500 DM. The board even
has a socket for the MC68881, so that you don't have to loose your
coprocessor.

Message-ID: <1990May7.131415.5753@diku.dk>
When doing anonymous FTP to dsrgsun.ces.cwru.edu, I can't get any
response to the ``dir'' or ``ls -l'' commands. FTP opens an
ASCII mode connection, waits, and reports that the transmission
is terminated; no data is written to the screen.
The reason I'm posting here is that the problem may be dependent
on my site (diku.dk, Denmark), and I'd like to know if any others
have the same problem.
The problem is really bad when the README file is not updated,
and you can't even see the date of any files that may be new and
interesting..... .

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a program either PD or not,
which will emulate a Televideo terminal?? E-mail me any replies, and if
anyone else is interested, I'll foward the info to you.

You can use the .data files pacakaged with Mac sounds directly on the
ST. You don't need to do any conversion. Just take the .data file,
get it onto your ST, then try it out with play.prg (posted to
comp.binaries.atari.st recently) to get the playback rate right. You
can then use the sound with the Digital Keyclick, Beep, and Digivec
programs recently uploaded to terminator (soon to appear in
comp.binaries.atari.st).
Many of the sounds in the terminator archive are actually Mac samples.
Please upload any interesting sounds you find to
terminator:atari/music/samples
so everyone can try them out...

I agree this would be a wonderful thing. No, I can't do it.
I don't own a site, nor have the storage, and I keep moving.
I just wanted to say that I think that good indexing will be
crucial to its usefulness. I can imagine stuff going in but
never coming back out because users can't find what they're
looking for--then it would be no better than the net now.
I suggest that the manager of the archive will have to read
each submission (I doubt there'd be more than one or two per day),
anticipate its usefulness, and assign appropriate
keywords. (This would be important and take some skill.)
The new article number (or whatever naming scheme is used) and
the keywords for that article can then be added together on one line
to a global index file. Users can `ftp` the index file and then do a
`grep '(key1)(key2)(key3)' index` kinda command to get just the
files they want. E.g., `grep '(hirez)(vdi)' index | grep -n '(window)'`
would list all the files related to vdi calls on monochrome systems
which are not related to using windows. Okay, so it's not a very
practical example, but you get the idea of the flexability and power
once the indexing is done and the keywords are made available.
Regularity of the index would be crucial, so using the supplied
keywords would be unreliable.
It doesn't have to be just source code either. I've seen some
awfully useful little chunks of text floating by here that I was
sure I'd want later, but knew I'd never be able to find again
even if I tried to archive them.
Of course, a server should be available to do the `grep` locally
and return the results to those who only have mail capability.

Dear Netters,
i search for the former version of ST-Transformer, a programm for
emulation of 8bit Ataris on the ST. It's shareware made by someone in
canada. The current version is of no use for me. Is is somewhere on
the net or can somebody send me a uuencoded copy of?
Thanks in advance

Message-ID: <16000066@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu>
I was looking through D.B.'s multitasking kernel docs and I am
wondering how IO is handled? If one timeslices applications that
are outputting to a screen, how is the output handled? Does
each application think its screen is in a different location? IF
so how does one switch between them?
Thanks.

Thanks in advance.
