I've been trying to get a hold of Beckemeyer Development by phone for
some time now. I got the number out of a recent STart magazine and
dialed the number. It was disconnected, but gave a new number. I then
called the new number and have only succeeded in getting an answering
machine saying that Beckemeyer Development was not available and would
get back to me soon. I left a message twice, but have not heard a
thing. Anyone know what happened to Beckemeyer?

So, I only know what the advertisement said about MT C-shell, which was
that it is multi-user, multi-tasking, runs GEM programs and as an
option, UUCP is available. Sounds good (maybe too good). Is it really
multi-user, multi-tasking? I doubt this because someone told me that he
didn't think the Motorola 68000 chip had memory protection mode and, in
light of that, it would be impossible for a 68000 to run multi-user.
Also, does the MT C-shell come with any Unix utilities and, if so, which
ones? What do people think of it? Is it just as good to get a public
domain, multi-tasking kernal such as MX2?

Thanks for any experiences or knowledge you can share ...

My two cents on the behavior of the 'constant' -32768 in C. If something is
#define ed as -32768, remember that that means a _textual_ substitution will
be made wherever that thing appears (in contrast to a numeric substitution).
So the normal rules for integer constants apply (rather than some special
rule that might apply to preprocessor actions: the preprocessor action is
simple). Integer constants don't have leading signs. -32768 gives the
result of applying unary minus to the integer constant 32768. And on a 16
bit model compiler, there isn't an integer 32768. So the value of -32768 is
free to vary depending on context. One hopes a warning message is generated
(it is in Mark Williams C). Frankly, -32768 is such a convenient value for
flags on a 2-s complement machine, that I'd like integer constants to have
an optional leading sign, but it isn't defined that way.

For any of you interested, my Toronto dealer received a shipment of the
Lynx, and is selling them for $239 Cdn. (approx $200 U.S.) with the
California games, included. This isn't one demo model...he actually has
units for sale (sold two while I was there, and it had just arrived!)

I am looking for a math program such as 'tk solver' or 'mathcad' for the
ST. I haven't had any luck at my local dealer and have heard of no such
program written for the ST. If there is such a program for the ST please
tell me where i may get it. I would like it to solve systems of complex
equations.

thanx

Hello, STart magazine is still out. I really enjoy STart an awful
lot, and to tell the truth I'm not too dissapointed that ST-Log went
under. ST-Log never was all that great a mag. I ussually find it at
any halfway decent bookstore...if they don't have it, maybe you can
get a store to order it. It is really too bad that you can't get a
subscription to STart without paying to get the disks too. I love the
mag, but I'll be hanged if I am going to pay loads of cash to get
stuff on a start disk, most of which is useless to me!

I just got around to unpacking rsplot11 which recently came by. Several
different unarchivers report damage to rsplot.prg in the archive, and it
doesn't load, but it contains readable strings and the next file in the
archive is ok. This behavior is so unusual for the results of transmission
errors that I thought I should ask if anyone has run it from the distribution
before getting a new copy.

Uh, Blain, we're not exactly building radioactive computers up here
in Canada to wipe out Americans. I found your comparison to a car
without emission controls rather offensive.

I agree that it must be above GemDos, ie AES/VDI. In three years heavy
editing in a non-Gem editor, which uses BIOS calls for input, I have not
encountered anything like the bug described.

Message-ID: <137@ugun13.UUCP>

Hi folks.

I'm trying to use the GNU source level debugger, which comes
with the GCC-136 binary distribution. Please enlighten me, how
to use the debugger. I have the original GDB manual 3.1 available.
Here is the way I tried to use GDB.

- compiling with the -gg option
- linking with sym-ld (the library gnugdb is missing, therefore
I used the normal gnu.olb)
- running gdb
load the just compiled executable with "exec-file"

After I've load the executable, I can list the source code, but I
can't set a breakpoint. The command "break 48" is answered with
an error message meaning "There is no line 48 in the source file".
The command "info function" didn't give me any output at all.

Should I replace the gcc-ld.ttp with the sym-ld.ttp ??

I guess, it would be a good idea to compile a manual specific for
the Atari ST from the existing GNU manuals and also include
the libray functions ala U**X style. I might be willing to do that,
if I can enough input from the people, who did the fabulous work of
porting the gcc to the Atari, concering Atari specific points. I
have the texinfo manuals for the compiler (from GCC 1.33), the
preprocessor and the debugger (version 3.1) available. The resuling
manual should be more of a reference manual, than a user guide.

I found that if Starstrk is installed while WordPerfect 4.1 (aug 89)
is running, the F5-List Files command doesn't display files - only
folders.

There may be other side effects of using starstrk, but since PYRO
doesn't work on my computer (anyone know why? Does it work under tos 1.4?)
I am still using it, and I just don't use the f5 command. At least I know
that if I want it again, all I gotta do is get rid of starstrk.
