If anyone is interested, I've got 16 256Kbit ram chips
for sale. (For upgrading a 520ST to 1 meg yourself?)
I don't know a going price, but I'll start at
$40... is this reasonable?

|Without dragging my system to a computer store, I have pretty much
|decided on either an Epson LQ-510 or a Panasonic KX-P1124 24 pin
|printer.
|
|My question is if the LQ-800 printer driver that is included with
|Microsoft Write works with either of the two machines. I use GDOS,
|and would like to use the fonts that are used in Write.
|
|Are there specific drivers for either LQ-510 or 1124 out there,
|that are compatible with GDOS?
|
|The Epson, of course, uses Epson codes, but is the LQ-800 driver
|compatible? The Panasonic has LQ-2500 emulation, is it compatible?
|
|I prefer the features of the Panasonic, but if the Epson works
|better with the WP and system I have, then Epson it is.
|----------
I have the KXP-1124 and have used two sets of 24-pin GDOS printer drivers
and fonts with it. They both work very well. One set of fonts is from
Migraph; these are LQ-800 fonts. The second set came with LDW Power v1.1,
and they are for the Star NB15. These are verifiably different fonts (using
cmp) but I can see no difference in the results.
Migraph told me that the LQ-800 fonts do not make use of the full 360 dpi
resolution of the KXP-1124; they are 180 dpi fonts. Just the same, the GDOS
print outs are excellent. Migraph has 360 dpi fonts for the NEC P6 which I've
heard are compatible with LQ2500 and KXP-1124. So far, I've not had any
compelling reason to purchase them, I'm quite happy with the results I get
right now. (I wouldn't mind a better selection of fonts, though. Sans Serif
and Dutch get a little stale).

| Sorry if this has come up before, but I am really in need of info
| regarding a reliable way to verify the integrity of the FAT.
| Hopefully, the program should also go ahead and fix lost clusters,
| etc. as automatically as possible.

I've been told several times that ICD's CLEANUP.PRG is the best thing going
for the ST. I have a demo version that I ran on a severely corrupted
partition, and it claimed it could have repaired it (since it was a demo
version, it did not do the repairs :-( ).
Which reminds me, I need to order a real copy!

Is there a multi-tasking OS available for the ST? I'd like to
be formatting a TeX document while I preview another, and other related
multi-tasking sorts of things. What is available?
What can you tell me about 16Mhz 68k retrofits for the ST?
What is the best board in your opinion and what will it cost? What
are the pros and cons of buying and installing a 16Mhz board?

Can someone tell me where I can find a resettable ram disk?
RDY.PRG from MWC will only allow a partition to 700k. I would like
to make a 1.5M partition. It would be great if the M-Disk utility
that was posted to binaries was resttable; it doesn't appear to be.

I just bought Spectre GCR not too long ago and I have a color monitor.
When I run mac software on it, the color is really bad. Can anyone out there
tell me how I can improve the problem? I try following the suggestion on the
manual and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the mac mode. I've
tried changing the colors on the atari control panel and no effect.
If you have any sugguestions or help, I would deeply appreciate it if
you would send them through email to me. Thank you so much!!!

The following is taken from the top of a file called 'READ_ME.NOW'
along with a program called 'DOMINO'. I include it for the questions
about the status of ST-Log disks.

Is Usenet considered a group library? Just a question.

ST owners probably don't get as much chance to pirate, inclinations aside.
I really, really doubt there's some sort of genetic twist that causes those
with a klepto mindset to buy IBMs or Macs. Most of the software theft I've
personally seen others do doesn't involve modems & seedy BBSes, it's just a
casual, "Hey, here's a disk you might like" exchange. Usually, "Here's a
disk _from the office_". If you aren't surrounded by other <your-brand>
owners, you can't do that. If you don't use <your-brand> machine at the
office, you can't do that. *I* don't pirate, but even if I wanted to, I'd
have little chance to do it -- there just aren't enough ST'ers here (Central
Massachusetts area).
