Hi

Is there any Cross-compiler from UNIX to ST in the world ?

It could be nice to have such a compiler , for exemple to use with
a C++ pre-processor .

Nope, not actually the dialog box draws. They're done at the same speed as
usual. It's the *redraws* when the dialog boxes are closed that get sped
up. By a lot.

I scratched my head over this a while myself, since QuickIndex indicated
that dialogs were running almost TWICE as fast. I watched REAL close, but
couldn't see any difference at all in how fast they were drawn. Then I
noticed how fast they were closed. Bingo. See my previous posting for
other comments.

Subject: ICD OMTI RLL

URGENT:
a friend of mine just bought an ICD OMTI 3527A RLL controller (plus
Atari-Interface of course) in order to use his NEC 42MB harddisk (ST 520
upgraded to 1MB with '85 TOS). The software allowed him to supply the
parameters requested; heads, cylinders, and all that. It finally requests
and accepts the bad sector list, then the FLOPPY drive works a few
seconds, and the message: 'ERROR 26' appeares.
No chance to find the error mentioned in ICD's 'manual'... :-((
So here we go: what's the meaning of this error# ? What else could
probably be going wrong ? Any hints 'bout the configuration ? Any pointers ?
Help is URGENTLY needed (my friend bought a gun yesterday...)

C'mon!
Klaus.

I use a resetable RamDisk called FLEXDISK. I use
it for development purposes and it survived most crashes.
You could changes the size of this RamDisk via an accessory without
an extra reset. Its a valueable tool to me.

It costs about 70DM ($40-$50). The distributor is

They certainly aren`t mythical here in the Great White North. My favorite
Ataridealer has had 1040 STE`s in stock for over a month now.

At least, I`ve never seen an ST with stero outputs, extra DB9 ports
everywhere, and SIMMs on the motherboard... :)

To be fair, the first ones they received came with the regular 1040STf manual,
and the control.acc did not access the extra colours available. Just a short
addendum sheet telling us that more info would be forthcoming, and what
"All them thar extry holes iz far"...

So I suppose the moral of the story is: Thumb your nose at the FCC, and take
a drive accross the border to Friendly Free Trade Canada, and buy `em now.

Yes, this *is* a known psychological phenomenon. Anyone wishing to know more
(those "enquiring minds", for example) should look up Festinger's cognitive
dissonance theory and the empirical work surrounding it. Doesn't explain
anti-STE attitudes adopted by journos though, they shouldn't be affected by
cognitive dissonance, not being personally involved in resource expenditure
decisions (the engine of cognitive dissonance).

I have spent the last 3 days retreiving and downloading the Metafont
files from panarthea. I got metafont.arc, cm_mf.arc, mf_two.arc, and
newfonts.arc.

However, when I try to build cmss8 (which loads cmbase.mf, which loads
roman*.mf, which finally load greeku.mf which isn't in any of these
archives.

1) Can somebody send me greeku.mf (uppercase greek) or tell me where
I can find it?

2) Has anybody successfully built a font suite with the mf distribution
in Panarthea?

Thanks,

Would somebody care to describe exactly under what circumstances you run into
the TOS redirection bug?

Hi there,

I really get confused with all rumours I have heard about STE machines.

I have red that they do not work properly with a monochrome monitor.
Especially they would get lost if one try to use the new capabilities
( Hardware scrolling , new blitter ) on a monochrome monitor.

It is a famous French ST magazine "ST-Mag" which wrote that...
It seems there are some big problems with STEs.

They have also written that external drives 3'5 and 5'1/4 could not be
accessed properly with STE machines .

Has anybody met these problems with STEs on monochrome monitors or
with external floppies ?

Is it a hardware problem or a TOS 1.6 problem ?
Is there the same problem on TOS 1.4 machines ?

Will STACY allow external 5'1/4 disks ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Thank you! I've corrected the date in the article. However, some websites list January 1980 as the date of death.
