I did use DC Formatter, that was what allowed me to read the floppy on
the ST. It will not write however (except occaisionally it will write
the directory sector). It is a QUME drive with only jumpers for the
drive select.

Subject: Atari ST magazines & journals?

Are there any magazines featuring the Atari ST (exclusively or
partly) that can be recommended for an ST beginner who wants to
learn to make better use of his machine.

Maybe some of them even with special student subscription rates?

I'm posting for a friend; I know next to nothing about the ST.
But please email your responses to me: pjd@hpuxa.ircc.ohio-state.edu

Never mind, this is one of those problems that if you (Not me) leave
it alone long enough it goes away. It turns out that you need to use the
-i switch of mermit (i.e. kermit -i) telling it to transmit files "as-is",
otherwise it strips off carriage returns

I heard a rumor that David Small is working on making Spectre handle
MIDI in its Mac emulation. Is this true? Can sources close to Small
confirm this?

First of all: I don't use Lattice C so I could be completely wrong.
Character 255 is quite often used as an EOF character, could this be a
possible source of problems?

Subject: Macintosh Emulation using Atari

Hi,
I am thinking of getting a Macintosh. However, I do know that
Mac SE is a terribly slow machine (over-priced too). Could
anyone reading this give me some info on using Atari ST for Mac
applications?

I would want to use the ST as a Mac, using programs like Word,
Excel and probably some printing. A harddisk would be necessary.
How can I do it with Atari, and are there any advantage/disadvantage
on doing this? Also, I would like to be able to use all my
Mac formatted 3.5" disks too.

Since I have yet to own an Atari, your e-mail response will be
appreciated. Thank you.

Subject: MINIX/UNIX OSes for the ST?

Netlanders,

I saw the book, _The MINIX Reference Guide for the IBM PC/XT and AT_
and rememberd something on the net being talked about MINIX being
available for the ST(acey) machines. I have not read this group
since beginning college, so I am a little behind on what the scoop
is on MINIX w/ the ST. Where can I get it? How much does it cost?
What about support?

Since I don't get a chance to muddle through the groups here that
often (our vms doesn't carry the group, so i have to use rn on a
bsd machine.. trying to get something better here for full-screen
use, but politics get in the way.. :) so if you could email me your
replies, i'd appreciate it.

thanks...

to reply to my message and sent me copies of the file specs, and also the two
people who offerred me programs to convert. Thanks again for all your help.
