Subject: Does anyone know how to copy macapplications to the macemulator?
I like to put macapplications programs and other things to my mac emulator
on the atari st.
I don't have any program yet on the emulator except the system folder.
So can you provide me with a method?
Greetings from Amsterdam,
Fedor Mulder ACSMULF@HUTRUU0

Yes, the Spectre 128/GCR can use 128K Mac (Plus) ROMs or old 64K Mac ROMs. It
is quite stable, at least with 6.0.2 (which I'm currently using). MultiFinder
isn't rock solid; it acts pretty strange. The latest release, 6.0.4, contains
numerous fixes... maybe it will run better on the Spectre. We'll know if
Apple's 7.0 works when it is released. Yes, virtual memory will only be
supported on MMU equipped Macintosh systems. The rest really doesn't have any
reason to not work with the Spectre.

The Spectre GCR is the Spectre 128 with Macintosh disk access ability. It will
read, write and format Macintosh disks faster than a Macintosh. I've compared
side by side... and it's really true.
>3. Are there any differences between the US and UK versions?
I don't think so... I'm not sure.

Well, it supposedly retails for U.S. $300. The price won't be much different
at most retailers.

The reliability is excellent. Gadgets by Small stand behind their products.

Well, there is B & C ComputerVision in Santa Clara and San Jose Computer in,
surprise, San Jose. I don't know about Santa Barbara...

The Spectre GCR is a really great product. The only features I can think of
that I would like to see added are:
- Improved MultiFinder stability (is it really just Apple's weird code?)
- Shutdown/restart that works (it is hard keeping average users "ejecting"
hard drive partitions before turning the machine off - ARGH!)
- Selectable Spectre or Macintosh (GCR) disk format while running as a
Macintosh (it only formats Macintosh now)
- Macintosh SCSI device support (using ICD, Supra, etc. host adapter) so we
can use real Macintosh SCSI hardware
- Sound improvements: correct pitch, newer system compatibility, etc.
- Expensive Christmas presents for faithful users :-)
Oh yeah, a fix for my Future Systems GTS-100 drive so it can work with the
GCR would be great! ANYONE have any ideas how I can get this beast to stop
filtering out the high frequencies? (Is that the problem?) It figures that
I own one the only 3rd-party drive that does not work with the GCR. At least
I have one drive that works...

Subject: The Revolution (?)
As anyone who reads the two online ST mags knows there is someone (a software
developer me thinks ) who is trying to form a grass roots movement to support
the Atari line of computers, and he calls this movement THE REVOLUTION.
Now I'm all for supporting my system of choice but this guy seems to be going
way, way off the deep end. I mean he's talking about writing the ROSEANNE
show to get them to do a special episode where the family wins an Atari computer
and then has REVOLUTION team members set up the system for them , oh that
sounds real funny ha,ha,he,he,hummmmm. He also wants us to write the ABC 20-20
show to get them to cover the REVOLUTION as it progresses to ****VICTORY****
(dum,da,dummmmmm), Or how about that idea of sending a get well soon banner to
a sick child from who else, THE REVOLUTION ( why not send a get well soon card
to a sick child without the promotion). As well as a few other
brilliant ideas involving CBS news, George Bush, ect ect.
If this guy does half the the things he wants to do he is just going to
convince whoever he sends this crap too that Atari users are idiots so the Atari
computers MUST be toys.
PLEASE, PLEASE dont support this guy and his REVOLUTION. ( I think he must
be about nine years old, what with all this dreaming he's doing, Na, my nine
year old nephew has more brains)
OVERTHROW THE REVOLUTION, Before it overthrows YOU.

I would much rather see requests in this forum phrased more on the order of
"I've got a friend here who is interested in obtaining a CAD program. Can
anyone make a recommendation?"
While Public Domain programs are very nice (and my own disk archives are
fairly full of once-used or "perhaps sometime I'll use it" PD software), the
problem becomes this:
Everyone will use the [presumably] less efficient PD program and not bother to
consider the [usually] low cost commercial software available for the ST.
It would be more useful to me, personally, to know the relative merits of --
for instance -- DynaCADD, rather than to hear about the possible PD programs
which are also available. [Though I wouldn't mind comparisons of PD/commercial
programs...]
-- David Paschall-Zimbel
The above does not apply, of course, to the unique telecommunications program
known as Uniterm, which is, by far, the most USEFUL publicly available terminal
emulator for any personal computer I've come across!
