sorry, I didn't mean to include the entire source and in a post by itself, that
was an accident. Well, anyway the problem is that for some odd reason after the
call to vst_font, addfonts and c both become zero and I have no idea why. Also,
after it displays the system font, it bombs out with 2 bombs, but if I run it
again, it will increment c from where it bombed out (e.g. if it bombed out with
c=2, if I run it again right after, it will increment and c=3). I'm using
Sozoban C 1.2 Dlibs 1.2 GemFast 1.3 G+Plus 1.3 a unmodified (unfortunately, I
could use more memory) 520STfm. Is my problem with C, VDI, GDOS or what?
This code is modified from the Compute book on VDI (it didn't work as written
either)

I have Cad 3d (v1.0) and the Cad 3d printer/plotter driver package. I have
access to a plotter at work connected to an IBM. I would like to print my
plots there. If I can get the plots in HPGL I can bring them to work and
print them.

Problem: the plotter driver does not allow saving to a file.

I tried using barrel to capture the plot info but I guess it assumes
the plotter in on the modem port. Any know how to convert a Cad 3D
file to HPGL?

Happy New Year, 16 Bit Chums!

Three things today - please reply to me by email if possible since my receipt
of info-atari16 is gappy and prone to weeks of delay...

1) I have a new SM124 which seems to me to be slightly fuzzy, or at any rate
fuzzier than the one in my office. Before I start asking the dealer about this,
as this is already a replacement for the faulty one first supplied, I thought
I'd ask "Is there any way of adjusting the beam focus inside the unit?"

2) Does anyone have any recommendations for a Music Printing package for the
ST? Specifications are a) qwerty input (not piano keyboard)
b) output to HPLJ+ or HPGL or PostScript file
c) Must look very good!!!
d) Initially needed for Piano music so at least two
staves, plus text inclusion.
I don't want any fancy synthesiser driver or Midi wunderkind, just nicely
printed music. Any ideas, folks?

3) I asked a while back about spreadsheets...here is the summary..

BUY LDW POWER.

Well, that's all folks. Hope to hear from you.

Subject: Multifinder on GCR

My 4 meg upgrade board (FrankenSTein) for my 1040ST just arrived and another
user upgraded his Mega 2 to a Mega 4. Both of us are GCR users (hey Dave,
do I send back my Gamma test board or just keep it as a momento?). I read
on the net that multifinder is now stable in an as yet unreleased version
of the GCR software. When will the GCR stable version be released? With
4 megs, it would be great to use MF under GCR.

As yet, I have not seen any feedback on the net re: codes I could not get
to run on an STE. Is the mailer slow or doesn't anyone have info? Hey Atari,
anyone have a demo code to show of the STE's graphics and sound? How about
a decent manual for the STE instead of an addendum sheet? Does anyone at
Atari know why a save desktop in medium resolution still results in a boot
to low res on an STE?

Finally, I have STs running with OMNIMON multisyncs - they're great!

I've been trying to make opus 2.2 function properly, but ran
into several snags. Has anyone been able to make a proper
complete installation?

Here are the problems I ran into:

-I'm on a 1040st, single drive, and have both GDOS and G+PLUS.

To begin the installation, I re-installed GDOS for the
Epson FX-80.

Now, the first problem was that ASSIGNER.PRG refused to accept
the newly-created ASSIGN.SYS file as valid; it said that it was
a bad file or had more than 2000 lines in it. This same ASSIGN.SYS
file worked well with both GDOS and G+PLUS.

I decided to let it go, because the OPUS install docs said that
this was only to make sure that we had a 1:1 correspondence
between screen and printer fonts, and I had that (I think).

After that I tried running FONTWID.PRG. It took a while to
discover that I always had to have the GDOS disk as A:, and
the OPUS disk as B:, but after a while it ran ok.

Now, when I loaded OPUS, I got the same error as several other
people reported earlier, i.e. OPUS says that the screen fonts
don't match the printer fonts, and won't enable charting! Ugh.

Anybody out there got any ideas? HELP!!

jrd,
These are the same under normal operation, but they _mean_ the following:

char *Physbase() returns the actual location of the screen in memory, where the
display hardware goes looking for screen data when it wants to draw the screen.
Note that you can set the Physbase with certain alignment restrictions on
the ST, but in the STE and TT these restrictions (page boundries I believe)
have been lifted.

char *Logbase() returns what the VDI thinks is the screen location in
memory, which, under normal operation, will be exactly the same as Physbase.
It's useful to change Physbase so that you can build your screen on the
side (without the user seeing the drawing in action), and then flip the
screens to show the user a completely new screen.

So, for page flipping for animation, you'd be using
Setscreen(log, phy, res) with res set to -1 to indicate no change, and
log and phy set appropriately to draw to one virtual screen, and look
at another, and look at a new one and draw to the old...

Hope this helps!

Message-ID: <5269@blake.acs.washington.edu>

For those interested in the solution to my
intermittent powering down of my Quantum 80S:

THe lubricant surrounding the actuator arm
is rendered ineffective due to various
circumstances including certain conditions of
humidity and dust. The fix is a chip produced
by Quantum that can be installed by your dealer
that forces a random seek across the platters
during periods of inactivity. Apparently the
Seagates already do this.. and the "new" Quantums
come with the chip fix.

So far, i have had my drive running flawlessly for 14 hours..
seems to have done the trick.

THought i'd mention the GREAT service given by MacLand in Tempe, AZ.
They recieved my drive on Thursday morning, made the chip insertion
and ran a test.. had it mailed out THAT DAY Fed express 1-2 day delivery.
Can't ask for better service! ALso, Jay Denton, one of the techs, was
very concerned and helpful.

Apparently, the problem I had is rather common... so if
your Quantum starts failing to read/write due to a spin problem..
you may investigate the possibility of getting the rom chip (v. A200)
from your dealer.

Hi, Happy new year to everyone in netland just a note to make a point and to
ask a question.

1) I cannot let the recent discussion on music composition progs go without
mentioning Music DTP from Take Control (a British outfit). It is simply what
it says real Music DTP, full typographical control, postscript and GDOS
output, variable size text/music, full orchestral scores full page view etc.
Most importantly the output is brilliant allowing the use of GDOS drivers.
The postscript files produced are quite small too. However at the moment there
is no midi (though they inform me that this will come soon). I think it is
mentioned in Decembers Analog/ST-Log. I have been very happy with my copy
and it is contantly under development.

2) There was some mail a short while back on refilling deskjet+ cartridges
can people please send me any feedback on this practice and on anyother
benefits/problems of using this printer on the ST.

thanks

Subject: multisync monitors

I am interested in using a NEC GS2A multisync analog gray scale monitor
as a monochrome on my 1040st. ( I can't find an Atari monochrome
anywhere in the U.S. and an NEC 2A is out of my price range. ) Has
anyone done this or have any info that would be useful?

Please email me directly if possible. Thanks.
