See what you get when you type before you think?
It was the "db" debugger, NOT "csd" that doesn't know
how to deal with TOS 1.4. I just got off the phone with
Mark Williams' Co., and they say they're aware of the problem
and are working on an update. They also said that while csd
runs, some weirdness might occur - no details on what kind of
weirdness.
BTW: I haven't used MWC for a while, and encountered this problem while
trying to compile the source code in the mandlbx1.arc file from the unindexed
directory at erminator (35.1.33.8). It appears to be missing at least one .h
file, and has a few (so far) minor bugs. For example, numerous variables are
defined and never referenced, and I've encountered at least one misspelling
of a variable. Is this the state of most source code archives? Has anyone
already fixed this code? Would anyone be interested in a repost if I manage
to get it working? (It's (yet another) Mandelbrot set plotting program).

I don't much like the idea of a one way link, for reasons previously
stated. I would be in favor of a two way link, because it would allow
feedback from the GEnie side, which possibly would contain useful info.
I believe that I can write a copyright notice which allows
redistribution of my articles to any forum which allows a response,
should I feel that was needed.

You can't FTP to the panarthea archive.
mail archive-server%panarthea@sun.com
then type "help" in the body of your message.

Contact "ST Plus" in California. They have a complete line of FAX products
for the ST line. (Sorry, I don;t have their number with me, but any
issue of STart should have it.)
Good luck.

Subject: Need help w/5 1/4" drive
Message-ID: <1732@cod.NOSC.MIL>
I have been trying to install a 5 1/4" floppy drive on my 1040ST. I think
I have done everything that I have seen mentioned in this newsgroup. I removed
the termination resistor pack (and replaced it with 1 K-ohm resistors) and
replaced the drive select pullup resistor with a 1 K-ohm. I also buffered
the drive select and side select lines coming from the sound chip.
The computer now recognizes the external drive at boot-up, and seems to be
able to read existing files written on other machines, but does not reliably
write or format a disk.
I borrowed a friend's external 3 1/2" disk just to check that the computer
signals are there, and it worked just fine with no problems writing or
formatting.
Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Simple (I hope) PageStream 1.8 Question
Message-ID: <1733@cod.NOSC.MIL>
I have been unable to reproduce what appears to be a very simple text
effect with PageStream 1.8, and would appreciate help in finding out
what I am doing incorrectly.
The manual gives an example of a text object which is duplicated numerous
times with a small x and y offset to create a 3-dimensional effect. The
instructions say to change the attribute of the topmost copy to "outline"
so that it will appear white with the other copies forming a shadow.
When I do the above, the outlined copy appears to be "clear" so that the
background copies show through, i.e., the effect doesn't work. After
several tries it appears that I just don't know how to make an object
"opaque white", so that it obscures other objects behind it. I have tried
to change the "fill" parameters, but am apparently not putting together
the correct combinations. Can someone please straighten me out? (I'm sure
it's trivial.)

Just this past week, I finally got my Mega2 upgraded to 4megs and
TOS 1.4. My mega2 was bought in April of this year and according to
my dealer(who's now out of business *sigh*), was a part of the first
shipment with the kludgy blitter fix and the more IBM compatible internal
drive. My board had all the lines to the empty ram sockets intact. I just
want to say to everyone that there is hope for us Mega2'ers and lets just
check ours first before we get too scared.
I also want to add thanks to Andy Cassino for the ls373 warning, Greg
Lindahl for pointing me to a person who could do the upgrade, KenB
for TOS 1.4 (there are so many little things that make all worth
it) and BobR for all those Dungeon Master hints...
ps. Why does it feel like defeating Lord Chaos was a happier achievement
than getting my diploma???
