Subject: FTP sites ?

Just two days ago, Joachim Vance gave a list of available anonymous ftp sites.
Most of these sites were situated in the US. What about Europe ?

P.S.: What does I.P. Address mean ? Are there interesting subdirecories at the
simtel20.army.mil milnet node ?

Please reply via EARN/BITNET: K298027@CZHRZU1A or in this conference.

How do you go about maintaining your Atari ST? I managed to kill mine in the
process of upgrading the memory (it was flakey anyway, but it is really dead
now--when you turn it on, the color screen flashes a random color, the speaker
clicks with the power on, and that's it...no disk access, no bombs, nothing!)
I returned it to it's original 520 ST state, and it is still dead. Using
a scope and the two drawings that came with the developer's package, I've
about decided that the MMU is bad, since it appears that it is not driving
the enables of the 373's and 244's on the data bus, but I'm not sure. My
question is, how do others get theirs fixed if and when they break? My
temporary solution was to get another one while I was working on this one,
but I need to get this one working again since I want to use the 4 Meg
upgrade kit I have (and I don't want to have TWO dead ST's on my hands!).

Our local dealer and "authorized service center" knows less about electronics
than I do, and I think his test fixture requires the system to at least boot
before it can diagnose anything--and besides, I heard on the radio this
morning that his shopping center is being gutted by fire right now and
everything there is a total loss. Does Atari still have it's repair/exchange
program? If so, does anyone know how to get in touch with someone there to
start the process? If not, does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong
or how I can get it fixed? I'd hate to have to just toss it (although I
had one salesman tell me that the machines were good for about 3-4 years
before they died a permanent death, and this one is about that old).

Help!

Thanks,
Don Allison

(Sorry to bother everyone, but I haven't had much luck lately playing phone
tag with Atari, and my last email message there disappeared into the ether--
besides, I'm hoping someone else had this problem already and found a fix
for it! Email me and I will summarize if I learn anything useful. Thanks
again!)

I am learning C programming in GEM, and would like to use the examples
in my MWC book, but I am hoping not to have to type all of them
in. Does any one know if the examples in the MWC book are available
in electronic form anywhere (i.e. ftp, disks, etc)

Thanks!

I just got a used Supra 20meg drive. My problem? It's *VERY* loud.

I remember seeing a fix or something posted a few months back.

If anyone has that information could you please mail it to me or post it.

It's called "Scheibenkleister II, Massenspeicher am ST". It's almost 900
pages of solid information about floppies, hard disks and related
topics. Just the TOC is 16 pages, the index is 9 pages smallprint.
Here's a short overview of the contents:

1. Basic information about mass storage, files, etc. (ca. 10 pages)
2. Files under GEMDOS (ca. 45 pages)
3. Structures on a floppy (ca. 35 pages)
4. Floppyprogramming using BIOS and XBIOS (ca. 45 pages)
5. FDC, DMA and the rest of the world (ca. 20 pages)
6. Recording mechanisms (ca. 25 pages)
7. The floppy controller (ca. 40 pages)
8. & 9. Description of the software supplied with the disk (ca. 70 pages)
10. Copy protection (ca. 25 pages)
11. Floppy hardware (ca. 45 pages)
12. Harddisks on the ST (ca. 25 pages)
13. The harddisk controller (ca. 50 pages)
14. Description of supplied HD software (ca. 70 pages)
15. More details about harddisks (ca. 40 pages)
16. Your own drivers in the BIOS (ca. 25 pages)
17. Infos about CD-ROMs (ca. 60 pages)
18. Finals (ca. 45 pages)

and

11 appendices summarizing everything in tables, schematics, etc (ca. 130 pages)

Apart from all the information, it is fun to read the book, since it is
written in a very humourous (is that the correct word ?) style.

The book has the ISBN number 3-927065-00-5 and can be obtained from

MAXON Computer GmbH
Industriestr. 26
D-6236 Eschborn
West Germany
phone: I don't have it handy right now

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the authors or the editor, it's is
just my most favourite book about the ST, since I love to play around
with this stuff, especially harddisks.

Oh, and the price is around 60 German marks (as far as I remember).

Hello/Bonjour/Hola/Gutentag:

I was up all last night trying to call a file selector using
assmebler code mixed with a C source file.

I am trying to send the extended information to the AES file
selector function that is picked up and utilized by LGF's File Selector.

In the documentation for the LGF FS, there is in-line assembler
code provided to type into a C program to get it to call the file selector.

One of the instructions is "bsr AES" ... Well, Laser C does
not seem to have any constant "AES" defined.

Does anyone know the absolute memory entry point for the AES?
Can anyone help? We'll see.

Thanks!!!!
