What do I have to do to be able to use these files? I have only recently
started to ftp files and this is the first time I have run across .zoo files.
Much thanx!

Hi all,
I have a friend who's planning to buy an HP deskjet, and I
dowloaded a driver so that he'll be able to use it with
Spectre. I found it at ricevm1.bitnet (version 2.1). The
trouble is, we don't know if it's a really good driver,
and if it's really better than his Nec 24-pin printer . Does
anybody here use the same hardware/software combination ?
I remember having read some messages about this here. Do graphics
and letters look 'as good' as on a laser printer ? Does it
have a reasonable speed ?
The help file that came with the driver was badly corrupted,
even if decoding it didn't show any problem. Does anybody
have a good one ?
Thanks for any information,
Eric

Does anyone know of any sources which document the DRI and/or GST linker
formats? Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if there are any possibilities of replacing the MMU on the
ST with one that gives memory protection. I'd like to upgrade to Unix
and not have to buy an expensive new machine. I realize there are
people out there interested in this idea, so has anyone had any luck?

Just a note I haven't been following the phantom dicussion closely but I
ran into the problem the other day while running Word Perfect 4.1.
Just thought I'd add a data point. And quite by accident I also discovered
(as has been mentioned) that moving the mouse helps speed things up0>

OK, Here's some thought provoking stuff:
Easy ones first!
1. How do get hold of stuff like SALAD and the PEXEC Cookbook?
2. Can you call line-a routines from within C? (Sozobon in particular)
3. Can you tap into interupts and have a C routine called x times per second
via a system interupt? In the Abacus internals (3rd ed) there was something
about a list of routine addresses that could be supplied to the VBL interupt,
am I mistaken, or seriously out of my depth here? Obviously this would
allow the start of a multi-tasking system.
4. How much difference is there between GEMFAST 1.2 and 1.3 GEM libraries?
I have the 1.2 is it worthwhile my getting the new stuff?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Simon.

I've been told that there is a program for the Atari ST which allows an ST
to control a VCR (via the Control-L jack on the back). I believe the program
in question used the VCR to record animation output from the computer, but
I'm not interested in this specifically. My true goal is to use the computer
as a video editing controller.
Does this sound familiar to anyone out there? Where can I obtain a copy of
this program (preferably with source code)? It seems to be designed to work
with Sony VCRs via the Control-L jack - will it work with other brands
as well?
Any pointers or information will be appreciated. Thanks!

I want to get a Toadfile 88 (dual SyQuest 44 meg disks) to:
1. use with my 1040ST and Mega 2
2. back up SyQuest disks from an AT
3. back up internal hard disks on Mac SEs
Number 2 should be straightforward as the ST should consider the AT
disk info as native ST info. However, I am unsure if the Toadfile can
be connected to a Mac from the SCSI port on the drive. Do I have to
disconnect the ICD host adapter? Is there any special cable needed?
Toad Computers said they had no experience with using their Toadfile
drives on a Mac and could not help me out. Dave Small, are you out there
and can you answer this one? Anyone else?

In bit.listserv.info-a16 you write:

>with the boot sector only. Does this mean that I can safely copy the files

There are several of those Virusses(called Linkvirus) but I never encountered
such an Virus.

Hi,
Just a simple question. Packing up with subdirectories I use -x//, right.
That works, but how do I PACK the stuff with subdirectories in the first
place???
