Isn't PC_DDRVR.SYS a driver for 720K floppies for MSDOS versions 2.x???
I thought that PC_HDH.SYS was the driver to allow access to more than one
hard disk partition.
By the way, has anyone ever got this driver to work? I would like to use
my other hard disk partitions, but cannot figure out how to get set it up
in the CONFIG.SYS file. The file HARDDISK.DOC on the PC-DITTO disk is meant
to tell you about this, but on my disk I can't read this file because of
bad sectors (I've got a second hand copy.) Could someone please show me an
example of how to access partitions D,E & F from PC-DITTO I? Thanks.

Subject: Databases

This is a repeated question. I'm in the market for a database, and having no
experience with them, would appreciate the views of the net on them. The more
specific and detailed, the better, of course.

I originally posted this about five days ago, and got exactly five responses,
three of which were 'could you let me know, too'. At this point, replies via
either e-mail or public means are more than welcome. Those of you who
maintained silence for fear of deluging the recipient are hereby invited to
attempt it. I'll summarize the e-mail responses I get.

Subject: Get Current Directory

When writing a GEM application, how do you get the current directory?

I want to be able to use fsel_input (or a replacement) and pass it
the directory that the program was run in.

Thank you for any help.

Subject: Help With FTP Binary

I'm kinda new at this stuff, but I've been having some trouble
getting arc'd files from ftp sites... specifically terminator.
I think it has something to do with the setings of my VAX ftp
end since I've been able to successfully send binary files from
my ST to the Vax and back, but I've not been able to get one
FTP'd program down to unarc correctly.

Also, is there a program around, (vax arc) so that I can check
the integrity of the files before I waste time kermiting them to
my ST?

Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: Laser C and TOS 1.4

Re: Laser C 2.0 and TOS 1.4

Scott, as far as I know, there is no way to make Laser C 2.0 run on TOS 1.4.
I called Megamax about this way back when and what the guy told me is that
there never was a PATCH.PRG. They decided to fix up Laser C instead, which
eventually became Laser C 2.1. He also told me there was some way to
patch up the LASER.CFG file file but I tried many times and couldn't
figure out his instructions. (The byte pattern he told me to look for
simply was not in the .CFG file). About 6 weeks later they finally shipped
version 2.1. They fixed a bunch of bugs but sadly enough, Laser C 2.1
still has serious code generation bugs that date back to the days of
Megamax C. I have reported these bugs to them several times and each time
they tell me they fixed them. They also refuse to put in an option to
turn off that stupid stupid STUPID disk cache in the shell. In more cases
than not, the desk cache actually SLOWS DOWN hard disk access, by a factor of
10 in some cases. I'd prefer if they got out of the disk cache business and
stuck to fixing up the compiler. I don't appreciate having a compiler generate
incorrect code on me, which is what Laser C will do the odd time. I just
stick to assembler for now while somebody writes a decent C compiler for
the ST.

Subject: PMFS Serial Disk Driver (New version)

Friday I'll posting a new verion of PMFS to accomodate slower baud rates
and configurable built-in cache in the driver. The driver cache can be
anywhere from 0 slots (blocks) to as many as you have memory for. The
cache only caches Single Block I/O because 90% of these are you directory
and FAT read/writes. Just cacheing those is a great speed-up.
The cache is configured during the first installation of the driver.
Either type pmfs ?blocks? from a CLI or rename pmfs.prg to pmfs.ttp and
pass the number of blocks in the dialog box.
I'll still looking for a way to emulate ? the GEM [ESC] key function.
Is this clearing TOS's cached directory blocks or something ? Where
do I find them to clear them myself ?

No, and no, and no. It was Gadgets by Small's Stacy, not Atari's.
Whether or not it is a production model or not I can't tell you.

>P.S. so, where was the TT, 1040STe, CD ROMs, PC DITTO II?? Did Atari

Dealers had the TOS 1.4 EPROMs for sale at the show. Atari has
already stated that all TOS 1.4 ROMs will be sold through dealers, so
it's no use asking if Atari had TOS 1.4 EPROMs for sale.

PC Ditto II was not shown because of scheduling problems.
PC Ditto II is not SHIPPING because it's not ready yet -- it's waiting
on a cable assembly which will make it simpler to install.

The TT, 1040STe, and the CD-ROM were not shown. If they had,
no doubt you would still be complaining about vaporware. Just as well
they didn't, eh, so you could be justified . . .

I wasn't there long enough to address any of your other
questions, so I won't include them. Sorry.
