Jeff Long, how complete is the GEM AES/VDI Library in the Prospero C
compiler?? I am currently using Mark Williams C, version 3.09, but it isn't
ANSI compatible, and isn't even all that UNIX compatible (no signal() for
example).

Does the Prospero compiler have a rich set of UNIX style lib functions??

How does it handle floating point arithmetic??

Can it use the math coprocessor chip, if installed?? MWC doesn't.

How close to the draft ANSI standard is Prospero?? Is the processor
compliant??

Where the heck is Prospero?? How good is there technical support??

How compatible is the Prospero compiler with the Laser C compiler?? Can I
compile Laser C code with the Prosero?? I can't with MWC (different header
files, libs etc).

To defend Mark Williams a little, while their C compiler is rapidly aging,
MWC offers excellent technical support, including an 800 number. MWC responds
to technical bugs quickly. I was having an interaction problem with PINHEAD
which was causing the MWC Resource Editor to bomb. I called MWC to report that
their RSC EDitor was bombing and they returned my call within a day. It turned
out to
be a problem with PINHEAD and not the MWC RSC Editor, but I didn't know that
when
I called MWC. And the MWC C ompiler manual is a goldmine of sample C code for
GEM AES/VDI routines!! I am constantly referring to the manual!

So, I would be less then willing to drop MWC, but it would be great to have a
ANSI C compiler!!

Subject: Arc 5.21

It's come to my attention that several people don't have Arc 5.21 and don't
know where to get it. It is available from the panarthea archive service.
If you've never used the service, send a mail message containing the word
"help" to archive-server@panarthea.ebay.sun.com for more information.

Subject: Disk Speedup

Is there a program that will speed up disk access on my hard disk? I
was putting some files into a partition from a number of diskettets. It
seemed that it took an awfully long time to find free space as the disk
filled up.
When I did the same thing on a PS/2 at work, it was much faster, even
though my Atari outpaced it in disk reads.
Does TOS 1.4 help with this ? What can I do in the meantime?
What is the maximum # of partitions or megabytes the Atari can handle?

Thanks,

Derrick

Subject: Help finding documentation for programming.

I was wondering if anyone might have some good suggestions on where to look
for info on programming the 520stfm. I am especially interested in assembler,
C, and in general more advanced topics of programming - system calls, etc.
(Note that I am also quite new at all of the more indepth info, but am very
interested in learning all about it.)
Any suggestions on where to obtain good assemblers and compilers (esp. if
they do not cost a whole lot) would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Sincerely,
jeremy Stewart

Subject: Laser C and TOS 1.4

Does anyone out there know if there is a way to make Laser C 2.0 work with
TOS 1.4 or is the only alternative to upgrade to 2.1, which would take several
weeks to a month to do.....

When you try to execute it, it mentions a PATCH.PRG, but I could not find this
ANYWHERE.....

I haven't been able to acess the comp.binaries.st archives
since the move from ssyx. Every time I try to open a connection
ftp wairts then times out. Is there a restricted access time ?
Is there only one net connection possible at a time? Or do I have
my head in the sand? Help

I too am interested in the Tex/Latex/Deskjet+ mix. However, I have none of
these. Anyone know where I can get the bits from (or is some kind soul willing
to post them to me?

I remember thinking the same thing when I d/loaded STEVIE when it
came across a couple of months ago. The cursors were screwed up &
it crashed all the time.

After some digging around, I found the original source off
comp.sources.unix (I think...anyway, it was a version with all the
portability macros intact) and re-compiled with Laser C.

Wa-La! The version I compiled was much more robust and almost 1/2 the size!
(well, ?90K instead of 100+whatever) Haven't gotten around to
fixing any more bugs yet (like hitting 'n' w/out previous reg-exp)

If anyone wants the volume number of the archive, I could probably dig it up.
