I have talked to MWC a few times, and the reason they gave me for not
continuing development for the ST compiler was that their compiler
programmer for the ST left, and they were having a hard time finding
a new one ( I assumed the difficulty was finding one who could do
an ANSI-C upgrade, but accept little money up front and mostly royaltys,
if I were the programmer and I was familiar with ST marketing, *I* would
be very unmotivated about potential royalties from the sale of an ST
product..)
No, that's not a flame, I own and like both my ST's. It's just (the current)
reality re: our Ataris and Tramiel-corp.

Does anyone know of a company (preferably in canada) that manufactures a
''box'' that will allow someone to connect a SCSI hard drive to the ST, via
the DMA port? The reason I ask, is that I would like to buy a new computer
is a couple of years.. as a result I will require a hard drive for it as well,
the fact that the drive may be SCSI will facilitate this immensely and keep
me from spending $$$ for a useless HD. It would also be nice if this DMA2SCSI
box will allow chaining of devices like MORE HD's and even tape backup units.
(or is that inherent in the SCSI protocol?)
Mail or Post those reply's .. this is an urgent question. :~)

Hello Stefan. I would be glad to send the docs but I don't know how
to reach you. I'm talking to something called DreNet which interfaces
with Internet which interfaces with Usenet which ... In short, my
mailer doesn't know anything about dmswwu1a.bitnet.
In any event the docs should be appearing at panarthea soon (they did
arrive didn't they Steve?). Throughout I tried to reference both the
German words that appear on the screen and English equivalents from
the 1.0 release. I rather like the screen the way it is now - adds a
certain charm.
At any rate, if you have problems with panarthea the way I have
problems with bitnet, let me know and I will drop everything to get
the docs to you.

Hello All,
I've been asked for help in regards to Minit933,but since I don't use VT-100,I
hope you don't mind a few questions.
1)The problem encountered is dialing out from within the prg itself,so
is minit933 a stand alone terminal or does it have to be called from within a
terminal prg.(such as Flash,Interlink,etc)?
2)If it is a stand alone prg,how is the dialing accomplished(apparently
the docs were a bit on the lean side)?
Please Email so we don't waste more bandwidth than necessary.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Kent Cavaghan

This may be my shortsightedness, but why on earth would one need a
non-multitasking fork() (especially on a machine without VM support, or
is that just the reason why)?
Just curious,

I have a resource editor that has menus,forms,free images,strings,
alerts. It makes .H files for 'C' and also makes hearder files for Pascal,
Fortran,and modula2. It's about $30-$40. It's well worth it. The best I have
ever seen. Your can create almost amything you want.. Made by Kuma the name
of it is K-Resource. Check your local dealer.. Well, worth the price..

Aha, you create another link (ln(1)). Is it possible to link files (at
least within the same partition) permanently? That would be great.

Yep, serves you right for doing things correctly!
I suspect that lots of computer users get their jollys making life
rough for the people who develop, manufacture, and sell their toys.
The head of our local user group was proud of the fact that the group
was able to undersell our last local dealer on disks, and he advertised
that other computer stores carried some items at better prices than the
local Atari dealer -- who closed his doors earlier this week. Gives one
a sense of achievement, doesn't it?
Of course, they could be out spreading viruses...

I am afraid everyone who has replied to the above article has failed to
see the point I was making, whether or not this was because I worded it
badly I do not know.
The problem does not lie in the actual FTP'ing of the file to my atari
the uuencoded file does fit on a single 3.5" disk, but if I was to
decode the file on that disk it would create another 700Kbyte file, thus I
would have to get 1.4 MBytes of data on the disk, slight problem there.
The suggestion of uudecoding on the host then doing a binary transfer, is
an improvement, however the file is 500Kbytes when decoded and to then
dearchive that file would require a further say 400-500Kbyes available
on the disk, same problem as before but slightly less.
I have however managed to solve the problem by creating a very large RAM
disk on a 1040ST then decodibng into the RAMdisk, ie. using it as a
temporary store, 'til I can clear space on the disk.
Thanks for all the help all the same
Adrian
