KESSEN III Single Layer Backup Tutorial (part 1)
This tutorial will explain how to create a DVD5 (Single Layer) backup for Kessen 3. For this tutorial I will be using the NTSC version (SLUS_211.19).
Note:
Included with this tutorial is a “Preview Version” of Apache3. This is an unfinished product and has only been included to make the backup process a bit easier. There are still some bugs in this preview version and it’s a far-from-finished tool. You will probably even notice some parts of the tool don’t work at all as the code is unwritten.
Now, time to backup this game.....
Launch Apache3, place your original copy of the game into a DVD drive and select this drive in the main Apache3 window:
Press the ‘Create ISO Image From CD/DVD’ icon:
Browse to a location on your Hard Drive, and save the ISO image. This will take a few minutes to complete. Please keep an eye on the ‘Read Errors’ indicator to make sure there is no problems with a dirty/damaged disk. If you get a read error, press the Cancel button and try cleaning the disk before starting again.
Once your ISO file has been created click the ‘Open’ button in Apache3 and open the newly created ISO file. You should now see both layers of the game:
The next step is to create a FileList of the image – we will use the file list later when rebuilding the ISO. Click the ‘Create FileList’ button:
Save the text file list somewhere safe for now.
Now we need to extract the entire contents of the ISO to the hard drive. Select the ‘Extract All’ button:
Browse to a location on your hard drive to extract and click OK. Apache3 will begin the process of extracting both layers from the ISO file.
Once Apache3 has finished extracting the ISO, your selected folder should look similar to this:
Make sure you have MOVIE.BIN included in the folder. You can, for now, close Apache3.
If you haven’t already got it, go to http://www.backuptools.co.uk and download ‘Munge-o-Matic!’. Launch the MoM Tool, choose ‘Kessen III *.BIN Files’ from the plugins drop-down box. Browse to your extracted folder and select the file ‘MOVIE.BIN’. Click the ‘Extract’ button.
A messagebox will appear asking you what file extension you would like to give the extracted files.
