KESSEN III Single Layer Backup Tutorial (part 2)
Enter pss for file extension and press the OK button.
The extraction process will take a little while so sit back and relax for a few minutes.
Once the extraction process is complete you will see another folder called ‘MOVIE.BIN_Extracted’ in the same location as your MOVIE.BIN file. This is where all the movies have been extracted too.
First of all, we can delete some of the movies, because they are duplicates... delete the following movies from the extracted folder:
File28.pss
File38.pss
File58.pss
File63.pss
File66.pss
File81.pss
File87.pss
File110.pss
File120.pss
File124.pss
File127.pss
File141.pss
File147.pss
File148.pss
Now to downsample the remaining movies.
Launch PSS Downsampling Tool v1.01 (included with this kit).
Drag and drop all the pss files from the extracted folder into the tools’ job list, change the compression rate to 85%, choose to overwrite the original files and select Alt-1 from ‘Use Stream: ‘ dropdown box if you want English audio:
Click the Go! Button and sit back while the tool downsamples all the movies.
Once all the files have been downsampled you can launch the MoM tool again, select the correct plug-in and again browse for the MOVIE.BIN file, this time select the ‘Rebuild’ button. Enter pss for the file extension and press OK. The tool will then proceed to build a new MOVIE.BIN file with our downsampled movies.
After the tool has completed adding the new pss files to our new MOVIE.BIN file the EasyRelink window will appear:
This gives us the opportunity to link the files we deleted earlier to any of the remaining files. Select all the missing files (left list box) and select File1.pss from the right list box. Click the Relink button. MoM will proceed to relink all the missing files.
Once the tool has completed the process you will find two MOVIE.BIN files in the folder. Our new file is named MOVIE.BIN_NEW. Move or delete the original MOVIE.BIN file and rename our new file to the original name (Just delete the _NEW from the end). The new file will be approx. 2.59GB. You can now delete the ‘MOVIE.BIN_Extracted’ folder.
The next stage is to patch the DVD9 Media Checks. For this, we will use Console Media Patcher. If you haven’t already got it, you can go to http://www.backuptools.co.uk and download it.
Open CMP and select DVD9->DVD5 before opening any files.
Click the ‘Open File’ button and browse to the game folder. The file you want to scan is in the MODULES folder so go into that folder and select the file called IOPRP300.IMG. Click OK.
CMP will patch the file. You can now close CMP.
All that remains now is to rebuild the ISO and we are done :)
Launch CD/DVD Gen and select DVD-ROM Master Disc, click OK.
Next, drag and drop the files/folders of our game into the main window. Use your previously saved file list and drop the files in the same order as the list. Example, this is a bit of my list:
0001200000 , \SYSTEM.CNF
0001200001 , \SLUS_211.19
0001202417 , \MODULES\IOPRP300.IMG
0001202552 , \MODULES\SIO2MAN.IRX
0001202556 , \MODULES\PADMAN.IRX
So, I drop SYSTEM.CNF first, SLUS_211.19next, and then I will drop the MODULES folder. Once you have dragged and dropped all your files/folders it should look something similar to this:
Click on the ‘Volume’ tab, and for ‘Disc Name’ enter the main run file name – in my case, SLUS 21119. Leave the Volume Identifier blank.
Now, select File from the menu and choose ‘Export iml file’. Select a place to save this file on your hard drive and give it a name, e.g. K3.iml.
You can now close CD/DVD Gen.
In Apache3, select File, Create -> ISO from IML File.
A new window will appear. Click the browse button and select your previously saved iml file.
Click the Start button and ‘Save As’ dialog box will appear asking you where you would like to save the ISO you are about to create. Make sure you select a hard drive with at least 4.3GB free, give your new ISO an name (e.g. K3.ISO) and click Save.
Sit back while your new ISO is generated.
Once ISO Generation is complete, it’s just a matter of burning it to disk.
