Gran Turismo 4 Single Layer Backup Tutorial (part 2)
The next stage is downsampling the movies.
If you haven’t already done so, download my /*PSS Downsampling Tool v1.00*/ and launch the tool.
Drag and drop all the pss files from the extracted folder into the tools’ job list, change the compression rate to 50% and choose to either overwrite or rename the original files.
Click the Go! Button and sit back while the tool downsamples all the movies.
Once all the files have been downsampled you can launch the GT4 DVD5 Ripper tool again, select the GT4L1.VOL file once more – but this time select the ‘Rebuild’ button. The tool will then proceed to build a new GT4L1.VOL file with our downsampled movies. You can have the tool delete the pss files once it’s been added to the new VOL file, to do this tick the ‘Delete Files After Adding’ option before pressing the Rebuild button.
Once the tool has completed the process you will find two GT4L1.VOL files in the folder. The original file has now been renamed to GT4L1.VOL_OLD and can be moved or deleted. The new file will be approx. 1.22GB in size (depending on game region, as mine is PAL it’s 1.22GB).
Select all in your folder, right click and go to properties. Your full data size should now be approx. 4.30GB.
If it’s not, and it’s more than 4.35GB then you still have too much data! You will have to start over but reduce the downsampling rate a little more.
If you are happy that the data size is small enough to fit onto a single layer DVD we can proceed.
In the GT4 DVD5 Ripper tool press the ‘Patch Files’ button.
An ‘Open File’ dialog box will appear, you will need to select the games ‘run file’. This will be called something along the line of SCUS_.... or SCES_..... My PAL version filename is ‘SCES_517.19’ so this is the one I select and click the ‘Open’ button.
The tool will patch all the necessary files and will display a message box when it’s complete. All that remains now is to rebuild the ISO and we are done :).
Launch CD/DVD Gen and select DVD-ROM Master Disc, click OK.
Next, drag and drop the files/folders of our game into the main window. Use your previously saved file list and drop the files in the same order as the list. Example, this is a bit of my list:
0000000429 , \SYSTEM.CNF
0000000430 , \SCES_517.19
0000000564 , \CORE.GT4
0000001551 , \IOPRP300.IMG
0000001687 , \IRX\SIO2MAN.IRX
0000001691 , \IRX\SIO2D.IRX
So, I drop SYSTEM.CNF first, SCES_517.19 next, then CORE.GT4, IOPRP300.IMG, and then I will drop the IRX folder.
Once you have dragged and dropped all your files/folders it should look something similar to this:
Click on the ‘Volume’ tab, and for ‘Disc Name’ enter the main run file name – in my case, SCES 51719. For ‘Volume Label’ enter ‘GRANTURISMO4’.
Now, select File from the menu and choose ‘Export iml file’. Select a place to save this file on your hard drive and give it a name, e.g. GT4.iml.
You can now close CD/DVD Gen.
In Apache3, select File, Create -> ISO from IML File:
A new window will appear. Click the browse button and select your previously saved iml file.
Click the Start button and ‘Save As’ dialog box will appear asking you where you would like to save the ISO you are about to create. Make sure you select a hard drive with at least 4.36GB free, give your new ISO an name (e.g. GT4.ISO) and click Save.
Sit back while your new ISO is generated.
Once ISO Generation is complete, it’s just a matter of burning it to disk.
