Mugil Cephalus
Scientific name: Mugil cephalus
Common name: Cephalus or Mullet
Habitat: mud and sand bottom
Depth: 0-10 meters
Size: up to 80 cm
Family: Mugilidae
Aquarium: it is a very robust species but it reaches a size that requires very large aquariums, we are talking about at least 800-1000 liters.
The breeding is really easy, think that the sea bass fishermen who use small cephalects as live bait (excuse the barbarism), keep them alive for long periods in a bucket with an aerator.
The particularity of the Mugil cephalus is to stop near or even go up the river for short distances.
Nutrition: in nature it has no particular nutritional needs, it eats everything, to the point of being considered the "scavenger of the sea".
In the aquarium Mugil cephalus almost immediately get used to eat flaked food.
The aquarium needs a very powerful filtering, because the mullet is so dirty!
