Murder in Three Acts
Murder in Three Acts is a British-American mystery film of 1986, featuring Peter Ustinov as Agatha Christie's Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. It is based on Christie's book Three Act Tragedy (1934).
Differences from the book:
- In the novel, the story takes place in London between the '30s and' 40s, while in the film the story takes place in Acapulco during the '80s.
In the novel Poirot's aide is Satterthwaite, while in the film Captain Hastings.
- The British theatrical actor Sir Charles Cartwright became in the film the American film actor Charles Cartwright.
- The motive for the murder of Dr. Strange has been changed. In the novel Charles kills him because he is the only one aware of his previous marriage, which would prevent the new marriage with the young Hermione Lytton-Gore. In the film Charles kills him because he is the only one aware of the mental disorders he suffers from.
In 2010 David Suchet interprets Poirot in Three Act Tragedy.
