Sega Dreamcast Serviceable Memory Battery Replacement
Recently, I had to replace the memory battery in my dreamcast. There are a lot of ways to do this, from replacing like for like, fitting re-chargeable AAA’s or I used a 2032 re-chargeable cell with vertical stand for the stock look. You have to be careful as some coin batteries are 3.2v, the charger in the Dreamcast outputs less than that as shown here (tested with no battery fitted).
First off remove the controller board and de-solder the old battery.
Here is the old battery removed.
Here is the new battery and vertical stand, fits straight in!
Solder in the vertical stand
Plonk in the new battery and it is good to go. If it ever dies, it is a simple matter of just replacing the cell!
