Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Phasmatodea
Family: Bacillidae
Genus: Bacillus
Species: Bacillus rossius
Location: Sardinia
Bacillus rossius is a species of stick insect, common in Europe. The species can be found in the northwestern Mediterranean, especially Spain, Southern France, Italy and the Balkans.
The insect color ranges from green to brown. The females, which can grow up to 10 cm, are considerably larger than males, measuring normally about 6 cm. The antennae are short. The physical structure allows the Bacillus rossius, both in the adult and in the larval stage, to imitate efficiently the twigs of the plants on which it feeds.
