100 million year old bug found preserved in amber
An insect that lived about 100 million years ago has been found preserved in amber. The insect has a triangular head, with the vertex of the right triangle located at the base of the neck, which is different for any other discovered insect. Scientists believe that would have given the species the ability to see almost 180 degrees by turning its head sideways.
It represents a new species, genus, family and order of insects.
The new insect, that was found in the Hukawang Valley mines of Myanmar, previously known as Burma, has been named Aethiocarenus burmanicus.
