CatHack (or CatHack!) was born at the end of 1998 in Barcelona and began by calling itself BPAP, which were the initials of its four original members: Barner, Pop, Asef and PGB.

Pgb and pop (pancake) met by chance, then asef and barner joined through contacts. The main idea was to be able to exchange information and knowledge about hpcva (hack/phreak/crack/virii/activism).

CatHack had strong hacktivist roots and its aim was to promote the underground in Catalonia, so authors wrote the ezine in Catalan, something that no other group in the scene had done at that time, even though most of them had Catalan members, or even all of them were Catalan.

CatHack's website and ftp were under different domains, the most well-known being cathack.hn.org and cathack.host.sk, which are now defunct.

In 2005 it changed its name again and was called "The List", although it was closed in the same year, as CatHack ceased to exist.

The first issue of the ezine is not dated, although it was probably released in 1999. The second issue is dated: October 99.
