The meaning of Genjo-Ko-an can be interpreted a number of #ways, but the best translation, by T.P. Kasulis, is "...`the individuality of things manifesting themselves equally.'" (5:83) Of all the essays of the Sho-bo-genzo-, Genjo-Ko-an best describes Do- gen's understanding of Zen, especially his view of ultimate reality.
