... ish right away. In Nekton's defense, he is the genesis of a couple of plot points. First, Superman thinks he's an escapee from the monster rampage in #85, so it stands to reason Simyan and Mokkari might want their property back. Second, Superman thought Nekton might be able to watch over the nearby harbor, so maybe he might take a place in the supporting cast. Fortunately for him, Nekton's creators will actually be around in six months -- which is more than I can say for Cogito, Strange Visitor, or even Scorn (remember him?) -- so we might actually get to see him again. As always, *very* nice artwork from Mahnke and Nguyen. If nothing else, Nekt ...

... decided that the extra creative control was causing problems meeting deadlines. The exit will be gradual, as he has plotted a "fun farewell" in issue #85 (4th Quarter 1998). ** Bogdanove won't be leaving the Man of Steel completely, either. His next project is DC's half of the Superman/Savage Dragon crossover. Bogdanove will pencil and ink that effort. ** So who will become just the second regular creative team on _Superman: Man of Steel_? Word has it that Mike Carlin announced some new blood at the recent WonderCon. Mark Schultz (_Xenozoic Tales_) will become the new writer, while Doug Mahnke (_The Mask_) will take over on pencils. In addit ...

... ted for the first half of 1997. Both packages will make use of hybrid Macintosh/Windows CD-ROMs. FAMILIAR BUT DIFFERENT In LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #85, Superman will meet for the first time the reboot version of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The story is set up by events in July's Legion titles, which results in part of the Legion team stranded in time -- back in the 20th century! Their first experience will involve tangling with the Metropolis SCU and the Man of Steel. Those of you wondering how the reboot fits with past Superman continuity should take careful note of this book, as the issue of Superman's encounters with the previous incarnati ...

... carnage. This is the category Hellgrammite falls into. I only vaguely remember Hellgrammite. His first appearance, as I recall, was in BRAVE AND BOLD #85, the issue that gave Green Arrow his "new look" goatee. I don't remember too many details about the story, except that Neal Adams made Hellgrammite one of the most visually striking villains around at the time. Since then, I think the villain has made only a couple of random appearances (a Green Arrow story in WORLD'S FINEST and a previous issue of a Superman title.) In none of these stories did he really have a clear-cut purpose or reason for existence. He was just a guy in a costume. But now ...
