... aliciously evil Lex Luthor can be. In the end, however, my vote went to Bogdanove and Simonson's fantastic homage to the Golden Age in _Man of Steel_ #80-81. Perhaps this had something to do with my newfound interest in Siegel and Shuster's original vision, but there can be no mistaking that Bog and Simonson crafted a powerful story which wonderfully captured the feel of the era. ST: These were definitely the three stand-outs, Jeff, although I wasn't as wild about the Bog and Simonson Mxyzptlk story as you; it just seemed too... forced. That left me with two real choices, but unlike you I went with the chilling portrayal of Luthor and voted for ...

... ntitled "Superman". If only for the sake of distinguishing this one from the last issue, I'd nickname it "The Sucker Punch," and here's why. You read #80 and you get the feeling that this is just another loving tribute to a bygone age. The Nazi presence shows that some hindsight went into the work, but that's going on in the other three Superman titles too. Otherwise, things are pretty much hunky-dory. So I started reading #81 this week and I was convinced this would be more of the same: The Nazis would be back, but the _important_ plotline would be Superman saving a little girl from a train as per the cover. Not so. I'll tell you what happened: ...

... is Clark working at WGBS? Didn't this all happen in the seventies!? How about the Golden Age? In the fourth week of April, SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #80 presents the first part of yet another three-part story, and yet another anomaly. How'd we get back to the 1930s!? Still looking for the perfect Man of Steel? In the first week of May, SUPERMAN #136 presents the first part of still another multi-part story. Perhaps "The Superman of 3000 AD" can figure out what's going on -- assu ...

... Image- or Larsen/Liefeld-inspired. Not that thatÕs bad in some peopleÕs opinion, just not my cup of tea. [Note: Kevin West was the artist on JLA #80-85. ÑJeff] I felt that this issue was a little of the same of #14 - too much action, a little short on plot. This issue, GrummettÕs art wasnÕt around to boost the quality of Superboy. I think the story suffered from too many characters and trying to integrate too much of a storyline within three issues. It seemed that a good pace was established in #13 but then disrupted with the subsequent issues. I agree that Knockout and King SharkÕs fate should be left to mysterious circumstances (a chance ...
