... opinion column or a non-linear article is tough going... yet Jurgens knew what he was doing. One of my first exposures to his prose was in _Superman_ #79. In setting the story up as Ron Troupe's first column for the Planet, we not only got an interesting view of what the Cyborg was like, but also a sense of what Ron was like as well. And Dan rarely failed with this style of story; as recently as _Superman_ #142's debut of the Superman Robots, he's gotten mileage from the essay form. 6) Jurgens was capable of being inspired by the right contributor ...and the funny thing is, I don't think Jurgens does his best work for himself. But when he hooks ...

... er stories, but rather in the style of a short story or opinion piece? I think of Ron Troupe's story about the Cyborg Superman way back in _Superman_ #79, and other stories. I understand that comic book writers are not journalists, but neither am I, and even I know that newspaper stories lead with the facts -- boom. First paragraph, right up front, then support the facts with details in the following paragraphs. Not so in the Daily Planet! In the Daily Planet, you have to wait until the middle or end of the story to get the facts of the piece. The beginning of the story is taken up with dramatic sentences explaining why the story got written. Re ...

... ut of order. Only this time, it was not just the triangle, but the title itself. It took about 5 or 6 e-mails to DC Subs for me to get _Man of Steel_ #79. On April 22nd, they said "We will check. Thanks." On Monday, May 4th, they said "You should receive it some time this week. Thanks." One week later, I said "I have #80. If I don't get #79 in 7 days, I'm cancelling." Monday, May 11th, they said, "We sent it out 5/6. You should receive it any day now. Thanks." ... That same day I received *three* issues of _Man of Steel_ #79, separate envelopes. Not to quote _South Park_, but... Dude, this is pretty screwed up right here! I don't know how to ...

... an titles are $1.95. **** Quite a few people reminded me of the latter offer, and then there the same subscription offered appeared in _Man of Steel_ #79. I still want to know what they do to counter the fact that _Man of Tomorrow_ doesn't come out four times a year any more. What about special issues such as _Superman Red/Superman Blue_ and _Superman Forever_ which come out *instead* of one of the monthlies every now and then? What *about* the annuals nowadays? Here's my suggestion. Take subscriptions on a quarterly basis, so that you subscribe to 13 issues over three months. At the regular cover price, this would total $25.35, so you could ...

... n Troupe finally wrote an article for the PLANET that admitted that ÒClark Kent died while covering DoomsdayÕs rampage through Metropolis.Ó (SUPERMAN #79, July93) Jimmy Olsen later summarized the thoughts of ClarkÕs friends: ÒAfter all these weeks, he canÕt possibly still be alive. If only theyÕd find his body, at least then weÕd know.Ó (ACTION #689, LJuly93) When Superman did return, his first priority was to stop Mongul and the Cyborg. Next, he went about restoring his normal life. The first step was to arrange for Clark KentÕs return. SupermanÕs accidental discovery of some lost kids in an old bomb shelter gave him an idea.
