... seriously warped and changing set of values. Yep, the Time Trapper is the perfect comic book villain. The story continues in _Legion of Super-Heroes_ #37 with a cover showing Superboy bursting through a Smallville billboard before a number of Legionnaires. The writer of both Legion issues is Paul Levitz, with art by Greg LaRoque and Mike DeCarlo. Although, in true Legion fashion, the comic has a number of sub-plots going on, people reading only for the Superboy story could easily ignore those pages and concentrate on the main plot. A squad of Legionnaires assemble inside a modified Time Bubble, using Mon-El's power and Brainiac 5's instruments t ...

... , Steel, and Supergirl at side) [ 5] JLA #5 (Recruitment drive, new Supes on cover) [ 5] Superman Adventures #9 (Luthor news clippings) [ 4] Superboy #37 (Superboy versus Sledge) [ 3] Steel #38 (Steel versus knife-weilding mercenary) _JLA_ rears its popular head once more, as the cover of its debut issue runs away with the award for best cover art. Even though I'm not much for Howard Porter's art, I'll admit that this was a magnificent "line-up" shot for the book's debut. Also not surprising is that a Gary Frank cover of _Supergirl_ comes in second. Ramon Bernado strikes again on _Superboy_, this time with the first issue of "Meltdown." You know ...

... size (and everything else) of Sledge, some truly horrible perspectives, and Bernado's typical 'broken ankle' look for Superboy that earned _Superboy_ #37 the dubious distinction of Worst Cover. So which one did you vote for, Jeff? JS: (deadpan) None of them. ST: (boggled) None? JS: That's what I was trying to say when you cut me off, Shane. I *was* leaning towards one of those hideous Bernado covers on _Superboy_, but then DC's "Big Head Month" arrived, and something distracted me. That something was the terrifying grimace of a supposed hero staring off the shelves from the cover of _Steel_ #45. That's *not* the way to increase sales on a low- v ...

... e scene in Carlin's office, littered with Superman memorabilia, complete with a poster by Dan Jurgens. Bog apes his style, a la the "Batmen" cover of #37, reminding us that he can do more than cartoony imps and caricatures of the boss. Superman almost takes a back seat in this one, although he still gets some powerful visuals fighting Badabingbadaboomsday, as well as the moment where he realizes he may die by one of Mxy's pranks. Despite his fear, he is prepared to sacrifice himself--showing us in one page what he's all about. It's nice to see some of that has rubbed off on Mxyzptlk. I was worried at first about Jon Bogdanove taking over the wri ...
